Chapter 82 And So It Begins VI

And So It Begins V

'For an underground city, this place is a lot less stuffy than I imagined it to be.' Kim thought as she strolled on the roof of a tall metallic building.

Her hands were behind her back and her tail swayed gently behind her. She walked on the ledge and anyone with a fear of heights would be terrified of falling. But she couldn't care less. After all, she would be perfectly fine if she fell from such a distance.

As she overlooked the dwarven city, she sighed.

Soldiers could be seen moving through the streets and all sorts of magical siege weapons were being put into place in the direction the Void Creatures were set to come from.

The air was tense as everyone waited for the inevitable battle. However, despite all this, Kim could still see joy within the city.

With her powerful senses, she had no problems seeing extreme distances, so she could easily see places within the city a normal person wouldn't be able to see from that distance.

She saw children playing and giggling happily. She saw an elderly Dwarf woman baking pastries and giving a woman who seemed to be having a less than good day.

She saw a husband embracing his wife from behind and catching her by surprise. She saw a teen on a balcony drinking tea while reading a book.

She saw a lot of things, and she was sure that if these people knew the true nature of whatever it was that was attacking their home, they wouldn't be so lax. But they didn't, and so she was able to appreciate the diversity of life these people had.

Obviously, it wasn't all good things she saw, but she didn't dwell on the bad as there was no point in doing so.

At some point, her eyes locked on to a specific scene.

She saw a little dwarven girl run into her home holding something that seemed like a crude wooden toy, a huge smile on her face. She ran straight to her parents who seemed to be talking at a table, and when she showed them the toy which it seemed like she'd been the one to have made it, her parents beamed.

The father picked her up effortlessly and said praises causing the girl to giggle and grin while the mother just watched with a fond smile.

Kim watched the scene and her tail stopped swaying.

'Huh. I'm a little jealous, I'm not gonna lie.' She sighed and slowly sat on the ledge and blew out a wistful sigh.

She continued to watch the family for a while before shaking her head. It was definitely a bit painful to see something like that, because it reminded her of what she lost.

She felt a deep sense of satisfaction when she had tortured and killed Godfrey. His pained screams filled her with such deep ecstasy that she prolonged his suffering for as long as possible before he died. And when he did, she felt a deep sense of accomplishment.

She also felt a strange acceptance.

Previously she thought she had come to terms with the death of her parents. But after killing Godfrey, She felt as though a wright had been lifted off her shoulders and the harrowing guilt she felt faded. It didn't vanish completely, but it had become almost unnoticeable.

Just like that, she'd accomplished her long term goal of getting revenge on the person that destroyed her family. And yet despite that, she almost didn't pay too much attention to it.

It felt as though some vaguely significant chapter in her life had come to a close and she didn't feel too bad about it. Sure she reminisced, but she didn't break down or cry or anything like that.

She just gave herself a pat on the back, and moved on.

'Besides. I have a new Family.' She found herself smiling under her mask.

She missed her parents, but she knew that they wouldn't come back no matter what, so she decided to focus on what was in front of her.

Christopher had found her and gave her a life she never thought possible. He made her strong, and gave her companions that she basically saw as siblings.

She had people that could make her smile genuinely, tease her and make her flustered, give her advice, be childish around her, and care for her deeply.

They made her happy.

As such, she didn't dwell on her successful revenge and simply focused on what was in front of her.

'I now have something I want. And I have the chance to protect it.' She touched her chest where her heart was meant to be.

She doubted… she was the strongest member of her group. Actually she was sure she wasn't. But she was still getting better, and the gap between her and the others wasn't so large that she couldn't be useful.

After all, she was only at the Quasi-Gold rank. And yet she could easily keep up with the others in the group. She was talented, maybe not as much as the twins, but enough for her to not worry about falling behind.

'And if I don't fall behind, that means protecting any of them is possible.' She nodded to herself.

She had a new resolve. Or two.

The first was to aid Christopher in his endeavours. After all, everything she had right now was thanks to him, the least she could do was help him back.

And the second was to protect them. Her friends. Her family.

She'd do everything in her power to make sure each and every one of them was safe.

At that moment, her ears twitched and she looked up.

"Ah, it seems like it's time." She mumbled and leaned forward, allowing her body to fall off the ledge.

She felt herself become weightless as she fell, and just as she was about to hit the ground, she suddenly vanished.

When she reappeared, she was next to a large magic cannon that was aimed at the far wall of the underground cavern.

And conveniently enough, the Dwarven Ruler Jared and the General Thoren were there, the latter barking orders.

However, her sudden appearance caught them off guard slightly, but they soon regained their composure and Jared spoke respectfully.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

"Lady Tempest Shadow, the battle will begin soon." Hearing this, Kim offered a small nod and looked towards the far cavern wall.

The dwarven city was constructed in such a way that the city was on top of a large platform which was surrounded by a deep drop that seemed to go on forever.

Four massive bridges extended from the city above the drop into passages that allowed the Dwarves to move to and fro.

However, these bridges had been blocked off, and one of them was where the main army was stationed.

The Dwarves had some impressive weapons at their disposal. All sorts of magical constructs and technological marvels waited to rain havoc upon the enemy, with the soldiers all equipped with powerful Artifacts.

However, despite all of this, the air was tense.

The tunnel at the end of the bridge was dark and most couldn't see inside of it. And it was extremely unnerving to know your enemy was coming through that place, but since they made no sound, you'd only be able to see and attack them when they came out.

Kim cracked her neck, the sound reminiscent of bombs dropping.

"You and your soldiers are to stay put at all costs. No one should come any closer for any reason." The order confused the king.

"May I ask why?" He asked curiously.

"Because chances are that this bridge might collapse, and if it doesn't, well, anyone that gets too close will be collateral damage." She said calmly and walked forward.

Jared and Thoren became somber at this, but they decided not to say anything and just carry out the order.

Meanwhile, Kim walked out in front of the army and exhaled.

"Phew, this bridge is so long. I just wanna run across it." She mumbled and started to lightly hop from place to place. It looked like she was warming up.

A moment later, the Void Creatures poured through the tunnel. There was no loud crash or echoing roars as they emerged, just an empty, unnerving silence.

The Soldiers all tensed when they saw this, and yet Kim was still warming up calmly.

She stretched her legs and once more began hopping from foot to foot.

"This is gonna be fun." She grinned to herself as blue arcs of electricity started to appear on her body as she warmed up. Then, when the creatures were about half way across the bridge, she leaned forward, then she vanished.

A moment later, a terrifying shockwave followed by several sonic booms sounded as Kim moved at impossible speeds towards the swarm.

Christopher wasn't exaggerating when he had deemed Kim as the fastest member of the group.

Her race was one that was literally centered around agility, and coupled with the fact that she used both lightning and space, two elements that could be used to enhance one's speed to a terrific degree, Kim's speed was quite frankly, very scary.
