Chapter 36 - Wang Yidi Calls Out, "Su Bai, Wait!"

Chapter 36: Wang Yidi Calls Out, “Su Bai, Wait!”

“Su Bai, didn’t you say you weren’t going out to eat today? Why are you at this restaurant?”

Qiao Yingzi spotted Su Bai stepping out of the restaurant and immediately ran over, curiosity evident in her voice.

Su Bai wasn’t surprised to see her. He figured her father, Qiao Weidong, would have brought her to a good restaurant, but there was no sign of him.

“My dad had something to attend to, so he left early,” Yingzi explained.

Yingzi and Su Bai had grown up together, and she could easily read him. “But you haven’t answered me—why are you eating out?”

“Ah, Wang Yidi’s mum invited me to dinner, so I came,” Su Bai replied casually.

“Wang Yidi? Why are you having dinner with her?” Yingzi asked, perplexed.

“Her mum wants me to tutor her, but I’m not one to be taken advantage of so easily. If she wants a favour, I might as well get a free meal out of it,” Su Bai said, chuckling.

Hearing this, Yingzi gave him a thumbs-up. “That’s so you. Well done!”

As they walked towards Chunfeng High, Yingzi remembered something important. “Su Bai, I need to tell you something. You know the flat on the fourth floor, 401? It’s my dad’s. He’s planning to move in so I can visit before school and play with my Lego. Plus, I’ll get to eat different breakfasts every day. But don’t tell my mum, okay? If she finds out, we’ll both be in trouble.”

Su Bai smirked. “Yingzi, you should talk to your dad. Secrets like that don’t stay hidden for long. But I do have an idea that might make your mum worry less about you.”

Her eyes lit up as she grabbed his arm. “What’s your plan?”

“I told Wang Yidi’s mum I’d tutor her but wouldn’t go to their house. If she comes to your place, it’ll disrupt your mum’s other students. But imagine this: if word spreads that I’m tutoring students and scored perfectly, how many people do you think will want to sign up for your mum’s classes? She might have to rent a larger space, leaving her less time to monitor you.”n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

Yingzi’s admiration was obvious. “Su Bai, you’re a genius! Why didn’t I think of that?” She grinned. “But it’s true—without your grades, Mum’s tutoring wouldn’t be as popular. I’d better keep studying hard!”

As the day ended, everyone packed up for the weekend. Fang Yifan approached, eager. “Hey, Yingzi, any plans for tomorrow?”

Yingzi thought of Su Bai’s promise to take her out but decided to keep it private, “Aren’t you moving into Shuxiang Yaju this weekend?” she teased.

“Oh right! I forgot! But once we’ve moved, we’ll be neighbours. Looking forward to it?”

“Not at all,” Yingzi replied, rolling her eyes.

Turning to Su Bai, Huang Zhitao asked, “What about you, Su Bai? Any weekend plans?”

Before Su Bai could answer, Yingzi grabbed his arm protectively.

“Ah, I’m busy this weekend. Maybe next time,” Su Bai replied smoothly.

Just then, Wang Yidi rushed over. “Wait, Su Bai!”

Both Su Bai and Yingzi turned, surprised.

“What’s up, Wang Yidi?” Yingzi asked.

“Oh, nothing much. My mum’s at your place, Yingzi, so I figured I’d tag along,” Wang Yidi replied nonchalantly.

Su Bai and Yingzi exchanged glances, knowing exactly what was happening. Wang Yidi’s mum had already taken action.
