Chapter 35: Su Bai, the Unpaid Tutor?!
Recalling Wang Yidi’s mother’s cunning ways, Su Bai immediately realised the invitation was part of her plan. He wasn’t particularly eager to go, knowing it was likely an attempt to secure free tutoring for Wang Yidi. After all, in the original story, her mother had used similar tactics to get others to tutor her daughter without cost.
[Wang Yidi (王一迪 Wáng Yī Dí): “One Flute,” a name suggesting grace and elegance.]
Still, Su Bai had his own plans. If they wanted a favour, he might as well enjoy a free meal. It wouldn’t cost them much, but it was a lesson worth teaching.
“Alright,” Su Bai said, flashing a smile. “Since Auntie has invited me, it would be rude to refuse. Let’s go.”Nôv(el)B\\jnn
Wang Yidi’s eyes sparkled with excitement, barely able to contain herself. She had never gone out to eat with Su Bai before, and her mother’s scheme had worked perfectly.
At the school gate, Wang Yidi’s mother beamed as she saw them approach. “Hello, Su Bai! I’m Wang Yidi’s mum.”
“Hello, Auntie,” Su Bai replied politely.
“Let’s go eat—study is important, but a good meal matters too,” she said, leading them to one of the best restaurants near Chunfeng High. She intended to impress Su Bai and secure his tutoring help.

As the dishes arrived, Wang Yidi’s mother made her move. “Su Bai, I heard you topped the exams with a perfect score. Truly impressive!”
“Thank you,” Su Bai replied modestly, recognising the setup immediately.
“My Yidi is struggling. She only ranked 30th this time and might be removed from the advanced class. Could you help her? You’re classmates, and helping each other is what friends do, right?”
It was a well-crafted plea. Most students would feel obliged to agree, especially under the gaze of a parent. But Su Bai wasn’t the average student.
“Of course! Helping classmates is the right thing to do,” he answered, much to Wang Yidi’s mother’s delight.
“Great! Shall we start tonight? Will you come to our home, or should Yidi visit yours?”
Su Bai’s tone remained cheerful. “Ah, I live with Aunt Song Qian now. She runs a tutoring class, so it wouldn’t be convenient to bring Yidi over. We wouldn’t want to disrupt paying students, would we?”
He smiled, knowing his words had hit their mark.
“So,” he continued, “it’s best if we arrange tutoring at school.”
Wang Yidi’s mother hesitated, realising Su Bai had no intention of tutoring for free.
“I’m full, Auntie. Thank you for the meal.” Su Bai stood up, ready to leave, leaving them stunned. “I need to return to school now.”

After he left, Wang Yidi looked at her mother helplessly. “Mum, now what? Su Bai has too many admirers—I won’t get a chance to learn anything from him.”
Her mother, however, remained unfazed. “Simple. We’ll send you to Song Qian’s for tutoring. Su Bai will be there too, and we’ll pay the fees. Who knows? Maybe something more will blossom between you two.”
She wasn’t just thinking about academics. Su Bai’s wealth, evidenced by his luxury motorbike and expensive home, made him an ideal match.
Though she kept this to herself, she believed her daughter’s beauty would eventually capture Su Bai’s heart.
