Chapter 440 Toxic
"Ahem… Alright, just guard this door for me." Shane said after completing all of his preparations.
The others could only believe their Leader and nodded. There was really nothing else they could do.
Soon, the team positioned themselves by the entrance.
Shane placed his hand on the cold metal handle…
Creak~
It was not locked.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Then, his pulse steadied for a moment as he mentally prepared himself.
As he opened the door, a plume of green gas hissed out, spiraling into the corridor like fog!
Whoosh~
"Ahhh…"
The team instinctively held their breath seeing this!
Their eyes widened as they saw the deadly miasma begin to spread.
Shane didn't hesitate as he stepped forward into the haze while the others behind him closed the door to stop the spread of the miasma.
Needless to say, Shane felt a bit uncomfortable despite having Poison Resistance… He still felt the poison prickle against his exposed skin, testing his limit.
Shane didn't go far from the door for a few moments as he observed the reaction on his body.
He then looked behind him and confirmed that the door was sealed shut already.
'I hope they didn't inhale too much of that.' Shane thought. In any case, they all have decent resistance, especially the elves…
Anyway, Shane immediately tossed several Light Orbs into the room…
The Light Orbs rolled around as Shane confirmed the situation in front of him…
Clink… Clink… Clink…
For a few moments, he watched as they spread soft light across the chamber.
The room was massive. He noticed the remnants of an apocalypse bunker that had decayed into a toxic den.
There were crumbling walls that lined the area, and the floor was littered with discarded equipment and debris.
Most importantly, the light revealed rows upon rows of undead. Their bodies were disfigured by years of poison exposure.
'They must be the Toxic Zombies…' Shane mused.
The Toxic Zombies were monstrous. Their skin was greenish-gray, mottled, and peeling as if corroded by the venom within them.
However, it doesn't mean that they were weak…
Shane could see thick veins pulsing along their arms and necks, oozing with some green fluid.
'What a nasty mutation…' Shane thought while shaking his head.
These Toxic Zombie's eyes glowed a dull, poisonous yellow, and patches of mold and fungus grew across their torsos… The holes on their bodies also emit the constant mist of poisonous vapor that permeates the air.
Nonetheless, they were as long as Walker Zombies. Even after noticing his presence, their movements were sluggish, as if they were burdened by their own poison, but Shane knew they were deadly up close.
He didn't want to push the limit of his Poison Resistance.
Then Shane unsheathed his Gale Blade.
It was the item he had obtained after looting the Winged Leader Zombie.
Of course, it was already upgraded to the Epic Grade.
[ Gale Blade ( Epic ): A one-handed double-edged blade forged from rare, wind-infused metal. Light yet durable, the Gale Blade is designed for swift, precise strikes and carries the elemental force of a cyclone.
Effects:
Windstrike ( Passive Effect ): Each slash with the Gale Blade has a chance to unleash a razor-sharp wind arc, dealing 40% of weapon damage to enemies within a 5-meter range.
Light as Air ( Passive Effect ): Reduces weapon weight, increasing the user's attack speed by 45%.
Stormguard Aura ( Passive Effect ): Protects the user's body and grants 30% resistance to wind-based attacks and effects. ]
It may not have activated abilities, but having three passive effects was still quite incredible. Anyway, he felt using this weapon was appropriate to control the miasma that was trying to stick to him.
After all, despite having Aura Sentinel, the miasma was still able to pass through it…
However, the Stormguard Aura had the perfect effect to protect him.
'This sword is really light…' Shane thought as he wasn't used to wielding such light weapons.
Anyway, he would only use this Gale Blade if he was alone in combat.
The reason was simple: the passive effect, or the Windstrike, was quite dangerous to anyone near him as it couldn't recognize a friend or foe.
Whoosh… Whossh…
Shane then waved the sword a few times to adjust to its weight. This movement even triggered the Wind-Strike, which showed how dangerous this weapon could be.
'At least I don't have to spend Spirit Points using this weapon.' Shane thought…
Soon, a trio of Toxic Zombies staggered toward him…
These three were spewing green miasma with their outstretched arms… As they moved, they left streaks of toxic sludge on the floor.
Shane then moved swiftly with his Spectral Tracker to close the distance.
'Let's be quick…'
His figure then seemed to blur as he darted forward! With a quick downward slice, his blade cleaved through the neck of the first zombie.
[ You have eliminated a Toxic Zombie. ]
'Not much resistance but…'
Thud!
The severed head dropped to the ground, splattering green sludge. Toxic gas spurted from the stump, but Shane dodged back, letting the miasma settle.
He then looked at his Gale Blade and felt relieved seeing how it wasn't being corroded.

However, he knew that the corrosion power of this Toxic Zombie was a lot stronger than the Spitter Zombies.
Graahh!
Another Toxic Zombie closed in on him with its mouth wide open, emitting a nauseating stench.
"Ugh… This is bad…"
Shane sidestepped and used his Aura to unleash his Energy Wave…
With the sword's natural affinity, the Energy Wave felt like it was imbued with wind-infused energy trailing from his blade as he struck…
Thud!
The strike sliced through the creature's torso, sending chunks of decayed flesh tumbling away.
[ You have eliminated a Toxic Zombie. ]
The wind helped disperse some of the poison, giving him a brief pocket of fresh air.
But the zombies who should've seen this didn't care and acted on their instinct upon sensing the presence of a human…
Just like that, more of them advanced, groaning as they dragged themselves toward him.
"Fine! Bring it on!" Shane shouted.
Shane adjusted his grip, surveying the horde. His Poison Resistance dulled the effects of the toxic mist, but he could still feel the strain on his lungs, and each breath started to take more effort.
'Did I already inhale too much?' Shane thought as he felt a bit worried.
Nonetheless, he didn't stop and continued fighting.
With a swift motion, he activated Vortex Spin!
It seemed to be perfect for this Gale Blade as the skill also sent a cyclone of slicing wind out from his blade, ripping through the Toxic Zombies around him.
Limbs and decayed flesh flew outward, spraying the chamber with noxious residue.
OF course, the more he killed, the more dangerous it became inside.
The green mist thickened as more Toxic Zombies died… The stench was nearly overwhelming as well. But Shane maintained his focus, with the help of his Unstoppable Will's effect.
Soon, a particularly large Toxic Zombie, with its bloated arms and leaking sludge, appeared behind the Toxic Zombies…
'Is that the leader? No… Maybe the Toxic King?' Shane smiled seeing this… He just saw what kind of loot he could get from such a special-tier Zombie. There was no way he wouldn't feel excited.
At first, he didn't really want to stay long here since he felt that the Poison Resistance was starting to reach its limit. He wasn't immune to Poison after all. He was mainly relying on his high vitality and his poison resistance… However, he just couldn't stop his greed at the moment.
'I have to make this quick then…'
Shane thought as he pushed forward using his Veiled Steps and ignored the Toxic Zombies…
Then, Shane used Double Thrust… With the Gale Blade being used, this movement almost seemed like a single stroke, but he had already struck twice!
Furthermore, Shane also used Force Breaker and Adrenal Burst on those strikes! This allowed him to use an explosive force with a simple movement!
The blade pierced through the creature's swollen arm and then its chest, shattering its core with a brutal force!
Boom!
The creature then collapsed as its green liquid poured from its wounds.
[ You have eliminated a Poison King Zombie. ]
[ Congratulations! You are the first to eliminate a Poison King Zombie, a special-tier zombie! ]
[ Hint: Only the first elimination of each Mid-Tier and above can provide special rewards! ]
[ You have obtained the following rewards: Spirit Breakthrough Potion x5, Instant Experience Boost Potions x5, Zombie Cores x800, Skill Fusion Scroll x1, Panacea Potion x3 ]
Shane didn't read this as he swiftly looted the corpse before eliminating the rest of the Toxic Zombies.
As he continued his assault, the toxic mist seemed to thicken, and he knew that it was already enough…
Shane took a deep breath, steadying his heartbeat and conserving his strength. Thankfully, The remaining Toxic Zombies were clustered tightly, so clearing them up didn't take that long…
Then, as he rushed to the door, the people outside seemed to have noticed what he wanted to happen and swiftly opened it for him so he could safely dash away.
What do you think?
