Chapter 460 Rotting Bodies
They turned down several corners and corridors, finally approaching a reinforced steel door with a keypad lock. Jade punched in a code, and the door clicked open. She turned to Kieran, giving a final nod before pushing the door wide.
"Don't know what?" Kieran asked.
"The entire compound and machine we have at the location have been destroyed. I was expecting to hear a little bit of good news from Master, but you showed up in her place," Jade explained, pushing the door open and walking out, letting it close behind them.
Kieran, shocked, stated, "Oh, I had no idea. I assumed everything was taken care of. Well, I do hope she's fine. Would you like me to carry you where you need to go?"
Jade shrugged. "No need. It's not too far from here. Plus, the last thing I want is the military seeing you flying through the sky or doing something crazy."
Moments later, Jade's phone rang. She answered, "Yes, sir?"
"How are you holding up?" the voice asked.
"Oh, Master Gojaro, I am doing fine. Just getting ready to go assist with the outbreak of zombies as instructed by the director. I was worried you might be exhausting yourself again."
The voice chuckled. "I expected as much."
Moments later, an armored Humvee rolled up with a 240 mounted on top. A young man with black hair and goggles was up top, and the door swung open as Gojaro stepped out. "I have a ride for you," he stated.
"We're working on fighting back the creatures that spawned in," Gojaro added.
Jade nodded, and over the next ten minutes, she divulged all the information she had learned up until now.
As they rolled up to a stop, the sound of screams pierced the air, mingling with the acrid smell of smoke and fear. Gojaro turned to Jade, his face set in determination. "Well, let's get going, Jade. The entire force is stretched thin. I trusted you to handle your own while I searched for the cause of this."
"If what you said is true, it's likely 'his friend' is somewhere nearby, controlling them," he continued, his voice edged with urgency.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
"Right," Jade replied, jumping out of the Humvee, her boots hitting the ground with a thud. The man in the driver's seat, a grizzled soldier with eyes sharp as knives, called out, "Don't get bitten by those bastards. I've seen enough movies to know it never goes right. We've been given the clear to execute anyone showing symptoms of a bite."
"Our mission is to escort safe people out and evacuate," he added, his voice grim.
Jade and Gojaro both looked back at the driver, confused. "Huh?"
"That's right," the driver continued, his tone unwavering. "We're set to drop bombs and block off this entire district within thirty minutes. If you're still in it at that point, you have no one to blame but yourself."

"And who are you exactly?" Jade asked, helping Kieran out of the Humvee, her hands steady despite the chaos around them.
"I am the full bird colonel in charge of minimizing casualties," he stated, his voice carrying the weight of authority. "It was my call to get the military to work with your group for this operation. Don't think I don't know about the freakish strength you all have, but don't let it go to your head."
Jade nodded, feeling the weight of the mission settle over her. The stench of decay filled her nostrils as she glanced around, taking in the scenes of chaos and desperation. She steeled herself, ready for the battle ahead.
Speeding off, Gojaro left Jade and Kieran alone as screams filled the air. Gojaro tapped the bottom of his feet and stated, "Focus on keeping as many people safe as possible. I will work on finding a suitable extraction point for them."
In a moment, he vanished. Jade took a deep breath, pulling her dagger from her pocket. Plunging the knife into her hand, she watched as it began to melt, reshape, and reform into a long saber blade. She then pulled out her Glock 19, thinking, This should be reliable enough for combating these zombified creatures.
Kieran's eyes widened. "What the hell was that?!"
Ignoring Kieran, Jade sped down the street, her pace quickening as she searched for people to help. She noticed a group of ten zombified humans running toward a man further down the street.
The stench of decay filled her nostrils, and the sight of their rotting flesh made her stomach churn, but she pushed forward, the saber in one hand and the Glock in the other. Her heart pounded in her chest as she sprinted toward the group, ready to intervene.
Right, nothing to worry about. Terrifying zombies... Ty would love this. He always liked zombie movies. Ugh. Readying herself mentally, she fired off two shots in the direction of the creatures, both bullets hitting the leg and torso of the nearest zombified humans.
All but two turned around, confused, and began rushing toward Jade.
The man running away from the zombies stopped, looking confused at the chaos before continuing to flee. Jade thought she heard him mutter, "Damnit, what the hell," as she prepared for the incoming attack.
"I need to make sure no one dies on my watch!" Jade shouted, determination lacing her voice.
As she stated this, Kieran arrived behind her. "What the hell are you doing?! How are humans using abilities and magic?!"
Jade turned to Kieran, her eyes beginning to flicker with white flame embers. "Is this really the time for this right now?" she snapped.
Kieran stumbled back, his eyes wide with shock. "How do you have his eyes?"
Jade dashed forward toward the zombified creatures, thinking to herself, Focus on not burning the energy reserves too much, but try out some new moves.
She swung her blade in their direction, and parts of the blade exploded outward, flying through the air and severing the flesh of five or six creatures. Their bodies hit the ground with a sickening thud, the stench of decaying flesh growing stronger.
What do you think?
