Chapter 158 The Girl Who'll Do Anything to Get to the Top (Part 3)
The girl before him had a beauty that was barely a notch below Liang Bing's, yet her insight and initiative were far beyond what Liang Bing could compare with.
It was just the day after she herself had taken over Tianxiang Garden, and even before the Longevity Club had cast its shadow, this girl had made her judgment and chose to act decisively.
Moreover, she also possessed extraordinary courage, betting all her resources, including her soul and body, on the position of a steward, which showed how resolute her mindset was.
Even if it were just for the girl's courage, Chu Mo felt that he should at least give her a chance to rise.
Chu Mo, who had originally turned to leave, gently paused, holding four carefully selected books in his hand, with the topmost being the "Chu Mo Short Stories Collection".
He glanced back lightly, his peripheral vision catching a glimpse of the girl behind him. With an indifferent expression, Chu Mo casually said:
"I can give you a chance, now, prove yourself to me."
The number one beauty of Shui Mu University, a junior astronomy major named Ru Yu, gently removed the black glasses from her nose.
She brushed some of her satin-like long hair that lay on her back, lightly placing it over her heart, while also slightly lifting the blue and white dress she wore.
After revealing her slender and well-proportioned calves, the girl, seemingly out of nowhere, took out a tube of lipstick and lightly dabbed it on her lips; after pursing them, her lips turned a striking red, which instantly added a seductive and alluring charm to her whole being.
Setting aside the books in her hand, an aura of intellect and youthful vigor of a female university student also emanated from her.
Stay tuned to empire
Like this, carrying both charming and innocent attributes, the girl casually picked a book from the shelf before her and, with graceful steps, approached a bespectacled youth. Amid his flustered and bewildered demeanour, the girl with dreamy looks revealed the sweetest of smiles and said in a voice as melodious as music:
"I read this novel when I was in my senior year of high school. I think the male protagonist in the book is very much like you, possessing an introverted yet calm personality. But once faced with a situation, you both demonstrate a strong and persistent attitude to move forward. I sincerely recommend this novel to you."
She placed the book, still warm from her embrace, before the youth whose face had already flushed red. Without a word, he took the book and, thereafter, unable to wait, walked briskly towards the checkout counter.
Having made up his mind, the bespectacled youth was determined to finish reading the book that very night, even if it meant staying up late.
The girl with the dreamy visage did not pause at all; as the bespectacled youth turned to leave, she had already returned to the bookshelf.
Her gaze wandered briefly before she quickly selected a collection of essays. Taking steps anew, the girl gently stood before a middle-aged man in his forties.
Although the man was much older, he couldn't help but swallow subconsciously in the presence of the mesmerizing young woman, but immediately realizing it was inappropriate, he quickly flashed an embarrassed look on his face.
"Uncle, I just saw your eyes linger on this book several times. You must really like this collection of essays. Since you've taken a liking to it, why not own it? Some people, once missed, are missed for a lifetime, and some books are the same."
The flawless girl, lifting her tender snowy white hands, gently placed the thick collection of essays, exuding an ancient charm, before the middle-aged man, her pure eyes shimmering like a constellation of stars in a vast ocean.
The middle-aged man was slightly dazed, but after a moment, he too stretched out his hands to accept the book from the girl's hands. He nodded gently at the girl, who was about the same age as his daughter, and then, holding the thick collection of essays, walked towards the checkout counter.
He indeed liked the book, having come a few times before to read a piece or two, fearing that once bought and put aside at home, it would be forgotten.
Today, however, he decided to buy the book partly because of the purity in the girl's eyes, and also because he truly loved the book.
But what puzzled him slightly was, why, when his gaze had only subconsciously lingered on the book a few times, the girl had precisely pinpointed his affection...
The middle-aged man placed the thick collection of essays on the checkout counter. As the bookstore clerk scanned the book, he turned his head slightly and saw by the essay collection section, yet another young man, around eighteen or nineteen, holding a book and walking eagerly in this direction.
...
"I read 'The Jungle' in my sophomore year at university, and I once shed tears over a supporting character named Sun Na. I hope you can also find something in the book that moves you,"
When the girl named Ruyu handed the book to the last short youth nearby, the disheveled youth nodded firmly, breathing slightly hurried. After taking the book from the girl's hand, the short youth suddenly said:
"I've actually read this book before, but for you, I'm willing to read it again."
As the words fell, the rabbit-like short male clutched the book and quickly vanished from sight.
Chu Mo watched the entire scene with a neutral expression, not commenting but quietly contemplating something.
Twenty-seven minutes, thirty-six books.
Selling an average of one point three books per minute, this girl was indeed quite different from ordinary girls.
Just when Chu Mo thought everything was over, the girl named Ruyu suddenly started moving, and in his field of vision, she strode directly to the opposite checkout counter.
After whispering a few words to the two girls at the checkout, she turned and walked towards the entrance of the bookstore.
With four books in his arms, Chu Mo took a few steps forward and saw the world-class beauty standing by the door of the bookstore, taking a deep breath, the whole person instantly filled with an endless charm, her arms crossed in front of her,
Then, the enchantingly pure girl said in a voice like music from the heavens:n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
"Books are flowing blood, books are spirited life, books are an endless spring. Walking among books, I feel wisdom, excitement, warmth, and peace...
To read a good book is to make a new friend, to befriend a book is like encountering a charcoal fire in the depth of winter, it selflessly ignites passion and excitement.
To befriend a book, for reading a good book is like a lost ship finding its lighthouse, raising the sails of ideals, and navigating the journey of life…
..."
At the doorstep of the bookstore, the passersby who had been hurrying along seemed to freeze in place, their eyes fixed on the dreamy-faced girl at the door, some with wide eyes, some holding their breath.
In the midst of the girl's crisp, heavenly voice, some continued on their way, leaving reluctantly, but others turned around and walked into the bookstore.
The previously quiet bookstore suddenly became bustling with activity, and one by one, pedestrians kept entering the store, drawn by the elfin girl's celestial voice.
It wasn't until there was a line of customers waiting to pay for their selected books at the checkout that the two cashiers snapped out of their trance and began to hurriedly process the payments for the growing queue.
He glanced at the four books in his arms, then at the steadily growing line at the checkout.
Taking a deep breath and stepping towards the checkout, Chu Mo already had an answer in his eyes.
This girl was indeed very different.
Perhaps, he really should give her a chance.
And give himself one, too.
What do you think?
