Chapter 229: 138 Visit to Marquis Residence (Part 1)
The little couple held hands until they reached the doorstep of the house, letting go.
Seeing Xiao Liulang’s drawn-out expression, Gu Jiao leaned close to him and whispered, “If you want to hold hands, I’ll let you next time.”
“No!” Xiao Liulang strolled into the courtyard, appearing totally serious.
Gu Jiao took the candied haws inside.
The grandma’s room was the warmest, and that’s where everyone gathered.
Xiao Liulang headed straight to the study, while Gu Jiao brought in the candied haws.
Upon seeing them, the little monk’s eyes lit up, “Jiaojiao hurry over to warm up by the fire!”
“Ok.” Gu Jiao gave him a less sugary skewer of candied haws, another less sugary one to the grandma, then handed two regular ones to Gu Yan and Gu Xiaoshun.
Gu Yan wouldn’t eat much, he was just having fun.
As the old lady stared at the candied haw Gu Yan was eating, tears uncontrollably rolled down her cheeks…
“Where’s my brother-in-law?” asked Gu Yan.
“Your brother-in-law went to the study.” Gu Jiao replied.
The grandma issued a command to the little monk, “Go and call your brother-in-law over here to warm up.”
“No need,” said Gu Jiao, “He’s not cold at all, his palms are sweaty.”
The speaker had no intention, but the listeners had ideas, a statement that caused a ripple of excitement!
His palms were sweaty.
How did you know?
You two were holding hands?
The little monk suddenly found that the candied haws didn’t taste as good anymore!
The little monk jumped down from his chair and decisively grabbed Jiaojiao’s hand! Nôv(el)B\\jnn
If the bad brother-in-law can hold hands, so can I!
Gu Yan grabbed Gu Jiao’s other hand.
If the little monk can hold hands, so can I!
Gu Jiao, with a bewildered look on her face: “…”
Even more bewildered was Gu Xiaoshun: “…”
The grandma was delighted, the two clueless guys were finally making progress, her little great-grandchild would be born any day now.
To commemorate this significant progress, Grandma decided to eat one less candied fruit tonight.
She placed the candied fruit she had saved on the bedside table, offering it up.
Happy.
The moonlight was as clear as water.
It flowed quietly onto the bedside table, illuminating the candied fruit, making it glisten and sparkle.
Grandma left.
Grandma came back.
She grabbed a handful of candied fruit and stuffed it into her mouth!
Screw the commemoration! Happiness should be celebrated! Celebrate it with food!
The snow fell heavily throughout the night, only stopping by dawn.
When Gu Jiao got up early, the courtyard was already covered in snow.
Luckily she had moved the chicken and dog pens to the firewood room last night, otherwise, they would have been turned into popsicles from staying out in the cold.
Gu Jiao went to the backyard well for washing and grooming. Although it was cold outside, the well water was warm.
After freshening up, she went into the kitchen to start a fire and cook, but to her surprise, someone was already there tending the fire.
It was Xiao Liulang.
“So early?”
Although he usually woke up early, he never woke up this early.
“Um.” Xiao Liulang turned to look at her.
It was still quite dark outside, and the only light came from the reflection off the snow. A lantern was lit in the kitchen, and the bright firelight shone on his handsome face, making him look truly unparalleled.
When you look at beautiful things, they uplift your mood.
Gu Jiao curved her lips into a smile, “Did you sleep well last night?”
“I did, and you?” he asked.
Gu Jiao walked over, taking the firewood from his hand, “Mmm, I did too. You go read, I’ll handle this.”
The kitchen wasn’t big – the two of them together made it feel cramped. He could smell the fresh scent of soapberries on her, along with her youthful fragrance.
He suddenly felt the kitchen was a bit hot, and without saying anything, he got up and left.
Instead of going back to the study though, he grabbed a shovel and began to clear the snow in the courtyard.
Soon, the little monk was up as well.
He was usually the third one to wake up in the house. Seeing the courtyard full of snow, he howled with excitement!
“Ahh~ I am Tarzan from next door~ Grabbing onto the vine of love~”
Gu Jiao almost set the entire kitchen on fire with a start!
How does that even fit in?!
“Don’t shovel! Don’t shovel! Don’t shovel! I want to play in the snow!”
He then dove into the snowfield.
They didn’t have much snow in Youzhou, so it wasn’t surprising he was excited.
The little guy had a strong constitution and didn’t fear the cold, so Xiao Liulang left him to play in the snow.
He then took the shovel and started clearing the snow off the walkways beneath the verandas, starting with the areas outside the grandma and Gu Yan’s rooms.
About an hour later, Gu Xiaoshun was also up.
By now, the little monk had successfully turned himself into a little snowman.
He was covered in snow from head to toe, with snowflakes even on his long eyelashes.
The little monk sat in the snow, blinking at him, “Brother Xiaoshun, do you want to join in?”
“Um, sure.” Gu Xiaoshun walked over, scooped up the little monk, and started rolling him into a snowball!
