The Only Son Amongst The Daughters Of Eros

Chapter 140 A Silver Scheme

Once dinner was over, the family dispersed as usual, although tonight, they did it in a quieter fashion.

Only speaking to say things such as 'thank you for the meal, Mother' and 'good night,' the Daughters left for their bedrooms, saying nothing more and dreading the coming day.

Moments passed after that and Mother Selene now stood inside the courtroom of the Castle of Moonlight.

Just like any of the main courtrooms of the other Regional Castles, this courtroom was a grand and imposing chamber, designed to embody both majesty and fear.

The same dim silver light bathed the vast room, and it was divided into three sections with tall obsidian pillars that lined from the door to the throne. All wrapped with intricate carvings of moon phases.

At the base of every pillar were silver sconces, their flames dancing in an almost hypnotic rhythm, making shadows dance across the polished black marble floor.

The customary veins of glowing silver also ran through the floor like rivers of light, converging at the dais where the throne rested.

All of the walls were draped with long banners of deep indigo, embroidered with threads of silver and white, having the proud sigil of the Moonlight Region — the crescent moon cradling a brighter, full moon at its center.

Above, the vaulted ceiling curved into an intricate dome, painted with a mural of a moonlit sky. And hanging below it was a solid carved rendition of the Region's sigil, larger and prouder.

Inside here, when no one else was present, the air was cool and still, almost peaceful, and with it was the faint scent of hibiscus and ozone.

Mother Selene was staring at the end of the courtroom, where the Moon Throne, a masterpiece of artistry and power, sat.

The throne was carved from a single massive slab of silver-veined obsidian, it was both elegant and formidable. The high back of the throne rose like a crescent moon, and its armrests were shaped into coiled serpents, their eyes set with shimmering moonstones.

The seat itself was cushioned with dark velvet, embroidered with an intricate lunar pattern. And of course, once again, behind the throne, an enormous silver banner displayed the sigil of the Moonlight Region.

Mother Selene had an extremely thoughtful expression on her face. She had sat on this throne for years, and she knew what she had done to get it. What her father made her do.

When it was first announced to the people of Erothyria that God Eros was in search of a wife, wealthy families went mad in the name of preparing their daughters to be given to him, simply so their family could be blessed.

Selene's father, Odmund, was perhaps the maddest of them all. Her family, the Palish, were falling from their once great status and Odmund knew that if he gave his virgin daughter to their creator, he would return the Palish name to what it once was.

Selene's pale fingers traced the armrest of the throne as her silver eyes gazed at it contemplatively.

She had left her human lover for the sake of her father. She had given her virginity, fucked a God for the sake of her father. And she had been turned to a breeding machine to bear Daughters for the sake of her father.

However, it had made her revered. God Eros gave her power, much of it, he gave her control and respect over Erothyria. Not only was she the Mother of All, but she could harness the Divinity that empowered the moon.

She could control minds, suppress memories, create fake ones, haunt dreams, engineer nightmares!

And so when her father returned to top of the family food chain, living in wealth for selling his daughter off like a common slave. A common whore. She visited him in his dreams, she tortured him with engineered memories that he could not recognize, making him believe they were things he had done, controlling his mind even from afar anytime he tried to fight back.

Eventually, Odmund Palish ran mad. Actual madness this time. And eventually, he died.

Selene stood. The faint flicker of the flames reflected in her eyes, giving her an almost ethereal appearance. Her expression was as inscrutable as always, a mask of calm concealing the labyrinth of calculations within her mind. The silent anger.

She had done many things for the sake of this throne. Many heinous acts that she would do again. But she could do nothing when Eros began marrying more wives and sharing the kingdom he gave her! — The kingdom that was hers! — Sharing them to ALL THOSE UNCULTURED TROLLOPS!

One of the silver fires turned off.

The heavy doors of the courtroom creaked open. Selene turned around.

As she expected, it was Luna who entered. Her shoes hit the ground heavily as she walked, and her sharp features were a direct opposite of her mother's, much more slender, honed by years of serving as Selene's most trusted confidant and enforcer.

Once she was close enough, standing by the dais, she spoke; "Mother."

Selene turned fully, her hands folding in front of her. She gave her first daughter a scrutinizing look. "Luna. Before you say anything, do tell me you have concluded the investigation I asked of you?"

"I have," Luna said, her tone measured. "The threats within the Moonlight Region remain manageable for now. However, there are whispers of unrest in the outer territories. For the first time our Region does not seem to be the Region to stand with in the upcoming Wave War."

Selene's lips curved into a frown. She grudgingly said. "A ruler's strength is not diminished by the idle doubts of lesser minds."

Luna nodded. "Maybe not, mother. But it will not please you to know that the Starlight Region has risen to be the favorite to stand by. It seems Aeric of Starlight has unexpectedly rallied forces, and his influence is growing. Even in the Dawn Region. The people love him more than he knows and more than we expected."

Selene's expression didn't waver. "That boy," she murmured, as if saying something bittersweet. "Everything revolves around him now. Ever since he was born. What do you think of him, Luna?"

Luna hesitated, choosing her words carefully. "I think he is young. But I think he has an ability to command respect and loyalty that he is not fully aware of. Perhaps it's his apparent knowledge of things of this world without even being experienced in them. His affinity for Divinity has proven formidable. The Starlight Region's future looks great with him."Nôv(el)B\\jnn

Selene stepped closer to her daughter, her voice lowering slightly. "That is good, is it not? I don't wish to destroy Starlight, I only want to reclaim it. I only want all my Regions belonging to me and me alone. Only one Queen. Only one Mother."

Luna straightened, her eyes steady. "We must assess his intentions and his strength more thoroughly. If he fights in the Wave, we will gain valuable insights into his capabilities. But if he proves too dangerous—"

"No." Selene's voice was soft but unyielding, cutting through Luna's suggestion. "Do not suggest that we punish or kill the Son of Starlight."

Luna stayed in attention. "Mother?"

Selene's silver eyes locked onto her daughter's.

Luna adjusted, watching her mother walk past her, heading for the door. "In the dining room. I understand now. Is this the same reason? Do you like the boy, Mother? It could not be that, I'm sure."

She turned fully. "You want to use him for something. A plan. An act. Something I do not see yet. Will you tell me? Will you tell me now?"

Selene stopped, her gown ending its sway over her pristine curvaceous body. Above her large breasts, a smile appeared on her pristine, pale face. "Why do you think Mother Aphra is perceived to be the most powerful Mother amongst us all?"

Luna narrowed her eyes. "You are the most powerful Mot—"

"It is not a trick question, Luna!" Selene stopped her. "Answer honestly."

After hesitating, Luna said; "Because she has the most number of Daughters."

"Six!" Selene half-exclaimed. "Even Aurora gave birth some years after Aeric of Starlight was born and she still hasn't reached Aphra's six. After Aphra, it's Aurora, and after Aurora, it's Lylah. I have three Daughters and Guinevere has two and a Son! A Son!"

The Queen of Moonlight turned around and looked at her first Daughter. "I am the oldest Mother and that offers me reverence. That is all I have. I am not the most powerful. I cling on to that to keep them in check, Luna. When it comes to power, I am the weakest. I have the lesser numbers."

Luna began to understand. "You want more Daughters. The boy... he could have inherited our Father's royal seed."

"He has inherited it!" Selene said. "He walks around with those balls of glory. My key to more power wrapped below his feeble waist, dangling between his manly thighs. I want to capture that boy and I want him to impregnate me over and over till I bear Children in litters!"

Luna's brows furrowed, noticing the word her mother used. "Mother, Children?"

Selene turned around fully to face her daughter. "I do not want to bear any more Daughters, Luna. I want to bear Sons."

Luna's eyes widened.

"And with his royal seed, I can do just that. I will have the highest numbers of children in all Regions. Sons, mighty and strong, gifted with high affinity for our Divinity. They will take the Regions for me, and I'll sit on that throne not only as the Mother of Moonlight. But the Allmother."

"The Queen of all Regions."

Luna was getting at a loss for words, but she could see her mother had planned this all out. She was determined on doing this.

"The Wave," Luna muttered, understanding now. "You plan to use the distraction. If he fights in the Wave, you plan to kidnap him there. That's why you're not bothered about him joining in the War."

Selene nodded at her Daughter. "The Snake Queen finally serves a purpose other than destruction. She will help bring the Starlight Son to me."

Then her evil smile returned. "Long live the moon."

The tension in the room lingered as Mother Selene left, leaving her Daughter standing alone before the Moon Throne.

Luna looked at the silver chair, thoughtless and speechless. The silver flames flickered around her, and the everlasting darkness of the night got even darker.
