Chapter 343: Chapter 284, Trial Skills
“So the bodies of those I kill in the future, after autopsy, I can dispose of them myself?”
Upon hearing this sentence, Wu Heng felt a surge of joy in his heart.
It seemed that the Steward of Gold and Silver Island didn’t harbor deep hostility towards Necromancers, or rather, his attitude was quite friendly toward Wu Heng before finding out that Wu Heng had committed any misdeeds.
From now on, the bodies of the fugitives he killed, after the autopsy, would belong to him.
In fact, it sounded like it should always have been this way, but there had never been such treatment in Black Stone Town or Lundham City.
Yazde of Black Stone Town, especially, was so afraid of him stealing bodies that he had the squads and the Guard Team take them out and burn them the next day.
“Thank you, Steward!” Wu Heng expressed his gratitude.
The graceful elf smiled in approval and said, “You’ve just arrived, and already you have killed several level three fugitives, you’re certainly not too bad at renting.”
After finishing, the tone shifted, emphasizing once again, “Your profession is quite special, you must abide by the Association’s rules, and if you encounter any difficulties, you can tell me.”
Wu Heng understood what he meant.
He nodded and said, “I will.”
“Hmm!”
At this point, the elf assistant beside them had also filled out the certificate to take away the bodies.
“Thank you!” Wu Heng took it and then looked towards the tablet on the desk, “Steward, do you want this?”
Tablets were plentiful in the Zombie World; there were whole warehouses of new ones with no place to put them.
But in this world, they were indeed scarce items.
At least, there were no props capable of taking photographs and browsing pictures.
Imilo glanced at the tablet and said indifferently, “Leave it here!”
“Oh, this item needs to be charged; if the screen stops displaying images, give it to me first to charge,” Wu Heng explained.
“Hmm, I understand.”
Wu Heng nodded, then exited the room directly.
…
With the ink on the certificate still fresh.
He headed down to the morgue.
The morgue emanated a repellent, bone-chilling cold.
Today, he didn’t see the two coroners, only the staff responsible for guarding, who were standing by the doorway chatting.
Seeing Wu Heng coming over, they immediately stood up straight, “Deputy Steward!”
“Hmm, this is the Steward’s certificate, I’m taking this body,” Wu Heng stated, showing them the certificate briefly.
In reality, Wu Heng had many ways to steal a body.
After all, as a Vice-executive, it wouldn’t be difficult to cover up the act and use the boundary door to transport the body to another world.
But it was best to take the official route.
So as not to bring any bad influence upon himself over a single body.
“Alright.” The guard glanced at the certificate, and one of them quickly entered the morgue.
They rolled up the body with a straw mat.
Wu Heng directly put it into his Space Ring.
“Carry on with your work,” Wu Heng said.
The two of them bowed slightly in response.
…
He returned to his office study.
Andre Willow was sitting in the room, “Master!”
“Hmm, have you collected the rewards?” Wu Heng asked.
“Yes, they’re all on the desk.”
Wu Heng walked over to the desk and saw several items on it, two Skill Books, and three pouches filled with silver coins.
These were the rewards for rescuing ‘Sha Naila’ and for killing the Bloody Hand Pirate Group.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
After several days of procedures at the Association, the rewards had finally been issued.
Andre Willow said with a smile, “When collecting the rewards, the members of the third squad were also there, Olin said you could directly come to them if you have any instructions.”
“It seems they are quite satisfied with the rewards from the mission.”
“Yes, everyone is rather happy.”
Andre Willow stood up, poured a cup of tea for Wu Heng, then returned to her seat to continue sorting files.
Wu Heng put away the bounty and looked at the two Skill Books in his hands.
This time he had exchanged for [Breath of Death] and [Animate Object].
There was also a Necromancy [Pestilence Skill] at the reception.
But that skill overlapped with the one provided by his Magic Wand, so he decided not to exchange for it.
Instead, he let Wei’er exchange for another skill he was more interested in, [Animate Object].
Beyond the images of brooms sweeping the floor and teapots pouring water, he also guessed whether casting the spell on a car would make it transform into a Transformer.
Or perhaps make a machine gun run onto the battlefield on its own, chasing people and firing.
With these thoughts in mind, he casually flipped open a Skill Book.
…
As he read the contents of the book,
Wu Heng’s concentration deepened.
[Animate Object]This skill belongs to the type of spell in the Transformation Series.
Also known as Transfiguration, this branch is often used to change objects or the environment, like the [Featherfall Skill] I previously learned, which is a type of transformation.
However, ‘Animate Object’ is a more advanced type of spell, allowing a mage to animate up to 10 inanimate, non-magical items within casting range.
And it’s not just any items that can be chosen arbitrarily.
The weight and size of the items affect the difficulty of casting and the number of items that can be controlled.
The book gives an example, saying that a normal mage could control 10 goose feather pens to write letters, but if it comes to moving chairs, they could only control 5 at a time.
This is the difference made by weight and size.
Wu Heng’s wish to turn a car into a transformer is even less likely; that’s not an effect that a spell can produce.
After casting, it’s also not about giving the objects real life, or a false semblance of a soul.
It’s more like issuing a command to the object to perform a certain action.
And there is no autonomy involved.
Wu Heng flipped through the book intently, amazed at the wonder of magic, and astonished that someone could actually invent such spells.
Turning to the last page, the system prompt immediately followed.
[Skill Unlocked: Animate Object]
He stored the book in the Space Ring and then turned his gaze to the desk.
He cast the spell on a goose feather pen lying nearby.
The goose feather pen floating from the penholder drifted onto the table and began writing the words ‘goose feather pen’ on the paper.
This wasn’t because the goose feather pen could write by itself, but because Wu Heng had pre-set the spell to write these words.
Dispelling the magic, the goose feather pen fell onto the desk.
Wu Heng waved his hand again, and a teapot flew over, pouring water into the teacup.
‘Andre Willow,’ diligently working, suddenly became alert, and with a flip of her hand, she took out a pistol, pointing it at the suddenly moving teapot.
“It’s nothing, I just learned a new skill,” Wu Heng said immediately.
Andre Willow glanced at the teapot, then at Wu Heng, and put the gun away, “What spell?”
“The ‘Animate Object’ I just brought back, which can make some objects move on their own.”
“Pouring tea and water, huh? It looks like Mini really will have nothing to do.”
Wu Heng looked at her and then snapped his fingers with one hand.
The hairband tied in Andre Willow’s hair suddenly untied itself, quickly tied a knot, and bound her hands together, lifting them high.
Wu Heng walked over, grabbed the lifted arms, “Quite handy.”
Bound by the hands, Andre Willow cautiously glanced at the door, her face flushed as she whispered, “What are you doing, Master? We’re still in the Guild; what if someone walks in on us?”
“Don’t you think it’s fun?”
“Let’s play at home!”
…
After teasing Andre Willow for a bit, Wu Heng released the magic.
He couldn’t really do anything in the Guild, especially not in broad daylight.
He sat back down at the desk and took out another Skill Book to read.
[Breath of Death] is a spell from the Necromancy Sect.
The type is similar to [Fog Skill], and it is highly likely that it’s a redevelopment of ‘Fog Skill.’
It can create a fog-like terrain, which, aside from obscuring vision, also carries many negative effects of necromancy.
It’s more like a fog enshrouded with necromantic energy.
Wu Heng had set great value on this skill from the onset.
Whether covering terrain or blocking pursuers, it could prove quite effective.
Of course, this type of effect is meant for the living; it hardly affects the undead much.
He flipped to the last page.
The system prompt followed promptly.
[Skill Unlocked: Breath of Death]
After unlocking the skill, Wu Heng placed the Skill Book into the Space Ring.
Feeling that there was not much to do at the Guild, he said, “Wei’er, I’m going back first. If there’s nothing else, you should head home early for dinner, too.”
“Okay, Master,” Andre Willow replied.
Wu Heng left the Guild and headed to his place of residence.
…
The Guild and his residence were both in the central area, making the distance not too far, really.
It was just over 10 minutes’ walk, and he would be there.
As he walked back
suddenly, Wu Heng felt as if he were being watched.
He spun around quickly, looking back.
The street was bustling with people who all seemed normal; apparently nobody was watching him.
But that feeling was not an illusion, either.
He glanced once more at the street and up at the sky to confirm everything was normal, then turned around and continued walking back.
“Check if someone is following me,” Wu Heng said in a low voice without stopping.
Glenda, invisible, flew up to the sky to look down from above.
What do you think?
