Chapter 1377 Exemplar Grade Affinity
Sprawled at the center of the river was Kyran, he was mangled and wounded.
Not the wounds he suffered from last night's battle but from the mutated animals earlier that were chipping on his energy-rich flesh, stealing small chunks, while he was still unconscious, making him look incredibly bad right now.
Other than missing flesh here and there, almost half of his face was eaten too.
His regeneration was too exhausted to recover the wounds.
Beside him lay Voltara's carcass, its stomach was ripped open, spilling its insides and also, its neck was tilting unnaturally. Kyran must've broken its neck to end the battle, because he was now pinned under between a rock and Voltara's carcass.
It was also the reason why the river stream hadn't brought him along.
Kyran had probably ripped Voltara's belly—and went around to break its neck before he went unconscious from fatigue. Since Rex told him last night that to amend his mistake, he needed to at least take down Brassik no matter what, he became this fearsome.
Instead of Brassik, Kyran took down Voltara which was even better.
From the way the scene alone, he shows his grit and determination.
Rex laid Iris down gently on the riverbank before he dived into the water and saw toward the center. He reached Kyran in a bit and grabbed him by his nape, before swimming back to the side.
He could use his power to pull Kyran but basking in water felt better.
It helped him be more awake.
Once he pulled Kyran to the side, Rex stopped and looked down at his body.
Last night's incidents made his clothes wet from blood and he stinks.
Looking back over the river, he shrugged his shoulders, "Eh... why not?"Nôv(el)B\\jnn
Rex immediately took off his clothes and dived back into the water, he swam and washed his sweat and blood-soaked body. After a long night of battle, he was tired—even his sanity stat was still as low as thirty percent.
Emerging out, he blew water out of his mouth, "I wish there was a body of water in the city"
<Notice: the user can purchase a pool inside the Shop>
"Of course, I can. I knew that already," Rex mused and dived once again.
He did not quite like water, but if it was shallow water like this one, and as clear as crystal to the point that it was probably safe to drink directly from this, he didn't mind. In fact, he quite liked feeling the pressure from the stream pressuring his body.
It was nice to relax a bit as he had a lot of things to do once he got back.
As he swam and bathed, Kyran and Iris were on the side, recovering from their wounds.
About twenty minutes later, when Rex had his fill, he swam over to Voltara's carcass.
Pushing himself out of the water with red force—he sat cross-legged on a red platform—and inspected Voltara's carcass. Recalling the things that went down last night, Rex was eager to take Voltara's Elemental Order.
Reaching his hand through its stomach, he followed the heat.
Once he reached the heart, his fingers grazed a very warm thing inside.
Feeling the texture, Rex immediately grabbed it and pulled it out.
He was met with the awe-inspiring sight of a brilliant sphere—its surface alive, with crackling lightning that sent shocks through his arm, causing it to tremble with each surge. He couldn't hide his smile anymore once his eyes rested on this sphere.
The System had informed him that an Elemental Order would be 40% less effective if used to cultivate a different elemental affinity. He used an Earth Order earlier to upgrade his lightning affinity but now, he has a Lightning Order in his hand.
Purchasing a high affinity from the System's shop is possible but upgrading it is different.
Once he already has the elemental affinity, he can't use the normal affinity from the shop.
Rex needs to upgrade it.
Now, the Order Beasts gave him resources to upgrade his elemental affinity.
Much better than absorbing normal affinity items from the System's shop, this way also gave a side-effect of increasing his mana capacity, and output. Since the absorption process went through his spirit core, it was also accidentally enhanced.
It was the reason why Rex obtained 30,000 intelligence points.
"With this, I should be able to upgrade my lightning affinity to the next realm again..."
But as he was about to command the System to absorb it, he stopped.
A frown crept to his face as he contemplated the situation.
"I got the Eternal Death Affinity that I haven't absorbed," He mused whisperingly. "Although a big portion of the death order stones were taken, reaching the ninth-rank realm—in that new element should still be possible, albeit harder. I could use the leftover of this Elemental Order after upgrading my lightning affinity..."
Rex was torn between going all out on lightning or beginning a new path of Eternal Death.
Focusing on one element as his main should be the best generic option.
Although generic, it would be effective.
However, Rex has another thing in mind that might help him a lot more than having one main.
"Everyone basically knew I'm a Werewolf who could use lightning elements. Against stronger opponents, my lightning is not strong enough as it's only a mystic element. Not to mention—some might even make preparations against me," Rex pondered aloud, weighing his reasons.
Once he deliberated about this for a few minutes, he came to a conclusion.
It would be hard but he should be able to do it with the System's help.
"I'll spare some to increase my Eternal Death affinity," Rex nodded. "the Eternal Death would be my trump card, as a hidden element that I am going to focus on. Nobody expected me to have more affinities so this would work"
Once he decided on the matter, he commanded the System to absorb this lightning sphere.
Just like before, Rex saw the mana the Lightning Order emanated pulled into his hand as if it was being sucked into a vacuum, shrinking its size. But unlike before—he didn't absorb all of the mana but enough mana to upgrade his lightning affinity.
He saved the rest to be used on his Eternal Death element. Explore hidden tales at empire
Following the fixed stream of his internal energy flow, the extracted mana snaked through his arm and seeped into his spirit core. His spirit core turned black—responding to the mana that was enhancing his Sky-black Lightning element.
Blitz!
A shockwave of black lightning exploded from his body.
It traveled through the water and frying the mutated fish inside, causing them to float up.
But it didn't stop there, the shockwave exploded multiple times.
Oblivious to Rex, who was reveling in the moment—feeling his spirit core being cultivated by these torrents of mana, the shockwaves of black lightning created a circular mana formation behind him.
It was two times bigger than his body and composed of black with a tinge of dark blue hues.
As the process continued, this mana formation swelled in size.
Crack!
Soon, lightning strikes pierced out from the ground and zapped Rex's body viciously.
For a little bit more than five minutes, this dance of lightning continued—striking Rex as well as the mana formation, floating behind him. Rex's hair fluttered, and an incredible amount of mana swelled from him, until eventually—a strong shockwave echoed throughout the length of the riverbank.
It crawled through the water and ground rapidly as the mana formation shattered.
Rex felt the mana inside of him was refined and opened his eyes.
Unlike last night, the sensation was a hundred times stronger, he felt the spirit core inside of him had undergone—a massive change. So much that he felt like he was not himself. Raising his hand, he tried channeling his lightning.
"Woah!"
Blitz!
Channeling a normal amount of mana, Rex found his lightning went out of control.
It blitzed and pierced the ground to his right deep.
Rex could feel it going deeper until suddenly, the ground to his right exploded and collapsed.
He saw the ground was swallowed, turning into a deep crater.
Seeing the massive crater caused by a small amount of his lightning mana, he gasped.
<Extraction and energy allocation have been completed!>
<Allocation target: lightning affinity>
<Lightning Affinity has been upgraded: Ultimate -> Exemplar>
<Obtained 200,000 Intelligence stat points!>
<Lightning Affinity Progression (Exemplar): 0%/100%>
As he wanted, he managed to reach the realm above ultimate within elemental affinities.
Above the ultimate grade turns out to be Exemplar.
Since has has never seen an Exemplar grade elemental affinity in the System's shop, he was not aware of the grades above ultimate. But rather than focusing on that, he couldn't believe that he gained 200,000 intelligence points from that alone.
It was a huge leap of power, which explains why his lightning was that strong.
...
<Intelligence: 541,237>
...
Checking his stats, he saw his intelligence already reached 541,237 points already.
And from the way his body felt, he was still adjusting to the new world.
In other words, his intelligence stat was still recovering and he could reach 600,000 points.
"Had I reached this grade from the start, I think reaching the tenth-rank realm would be way easier than before. It would take me ten years to reach, the tenth-rank realm—but now, with my current state, that number should be cut by three to four times" Rex mused in delight.
Since the world has awakened, new opportunities presented themselves.
Rex was tasting one of them right now.
"I guess it's not that surprising, in the ancient era, there were people who even reached the eleven or twelve-rank realm. Now, I'm starting to see myself nearing that stupid sovereign's strength" He nodded—the path to power became clearer now.
As he was about to absorb the Eternal Death element, he heard a groan from the side.
It was Kyran, he was regaining consciousness.
Seeing this, Rex swam over and came out of the water to check on him.
Kyran blinked his eyes a couple of times, before sitting up slowly, the wounds inflicted by the mutated animals were beginning to close up again. His face was still in shambles but it would not take long for him to recover.
For a Werewolf, unless the heart was crushed or beheaded, all wounds are nothing.
It was the reason why Werewolves are known for their resilience.
Raising his gaze, he saw Rex standing with the sun silhouetting his entire form from behind.
"Did I pass out...?"
"No, you're more like sleeping for hours"
"If so, why didn't you wake me up?"
"You deserved a good sleep although the sleep came from you being crushed by a carcass"
Upon hearing this, Kyran raised an eyebrow in puzzlement.
Rex smiled and turned sideways, showing the Voltara's carcass at the center of the river.
Once Kyran saw that, memories from last night began to play in his mind as he recalled every single thing. His mind might be clouded—he might feel like he was watching his own life from a third-person point of view, but he remembered everything.
In that instant, Kyran's lips curled into a smile—he chuckled.
His chuckle started mildly at first but quickly escalated into a burst of exuberant laughter.
"I did it..." He muttered, looking at his own two hands. "I kept Naela safe"
Rex nodded firmly, that was his punishment for prioritizing the wrong things.
"We are not normal Humans—we're part Werewolves," Rex said, crossing his arms. "We could fight beings, that are stronger than us because of our resilience. All we needed to have is the right mindset, and as you can see, even you could achieve the impossible"
Achieving victory against Voltara for Kyran would be considered impossible by many.
Voltara is an Order Beast, a Lightning Knight.
On the other hand, Kyran was a new peak ninth-rank realm, the gap was too wide.
But with the help of the Demon Moon, his determination—as well as his drive to keep Naela safe, he was able to be angry enough and desperate enough to beat Voltara. Making use of everything he could to achieve victory.
From the bite marks on Voltara's carcass, it was clear that he was also eating Voltara.
Kyran must've realized the brief boost gained from eating flesh and used it to his advantage.
All of his move was caused by desperation and the right mindset.
"Congratulations, you have made amends... you've kept Naela safe in your mind" Rex added.
What do you think?
