The Era of Gods

Chapter 540: The Great Battle with Yarji

Chapter 540: Chapter 540: The Great Battle with Yarji

“Perhaps, I should take a look at your Main World!”

Yarji gave no response, nor did he continue to inquire; it was certain no useful information could be extracted from questioning, and it was safer to take a personal look.

He highly suspected that the Nightmare Sovereign had some hidden strategies in the Nightmare Main World, and Yarji, despite knowing he was no match for him, showed no intention of fleeing. This, combined with a certain guess in his mind, made things quite interesting.

Moreover, when he voiced this thought, he distinctly felt Yarji’s utmost effort to conceal the abnormal fluctuations in his spirit. Upon seeing Lin Xiao’s smile that was not quite a smile, Yarji loudly declared:

“Then come, our Main World is the birthplace of the Dominator. Once you come, don’t expect to leave.”

Boom!

That sentence thundered through Lin Xiao’s heart like lightning, stunning him for a moment, his eyes shining with a series of rapid thoughts.

“The Main World is the birthplace of the Dominator!”

A flash of inspiration struck Lin Xiao, and an idea surfaced, becoming unstoppable once it had emerged.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

It turned out that the Human Main World and the Nightmare Main World were the birth worlds of the two Overlords; he already knew that the two Overlords were among the earliest Star Souls, meaning they were the Star Soul Titans of the Human Main World and the Nightmare Main World respectively. As their original birthplaces, the strength of these two Main Worlds was to a certain extent connected to their current might.

No wonder all players were born in the Main World; no wonder the Overlords had mandated players to battle in the Outland, vying for territory. This was all part of the struggle between the two Overlords.

This was something everyone knew, but nobody had thought about it in that way before.

And the Overlords didn’t openly inform the players about this matter, probably not wanting the players to know and possibly cause unforeseen consequences.

Of course, the majority of players, even if they knew, would not affect the outcome. Even with the knowledge, they’d still have to do as promised by the Overlords for their own benefit. They couldn’t let the Nightmare Sovereign be victorious, could they?

In fact, by concealing this information, the two Overlords were mainly guarding against super-experts like Lin Xiao, who had the qualifications to influence the outcome of the contest.

The two Overlords probably also had suspicions about possible cheaters, as they weren’t truly beings of great divine power, and in a world where trillions of artifacts, treasures, and remnants exist, who knows if there are ways to cheat. It was precisely in order to prevent any contingencies that they kept it concealed.

After all, beings like Yarji, who descended in their True Body form, were capable of changing the state of affairs.

If it weren’t for Lin Xiao, with Yarji’s strength and the Overlords’ inability to intervene directly, it wouldn’t be difficult for the millions of Nightmare players under his leadership to breach the Expeditionary Army Fortress. Once the Nightmare players managed to directly invade the Human Main World, the Human Overlord would be at a disadvantage.

One move leads to a chain reaction; a single loss leads to successive defeats. If the Nightmare players invaded the Human Main World and established a stable base, persisting till the hundred-year mark, it would be deemed a failure for the Human Overlord.

In fact, according to Lin Xiao’s speculation, at first, the Nightmare Sovereign didn’t acknowledge Yarji, who sneakily crossed over. Only when they suddenly discovered that Lin Xiao, a newly emerged Titan of unknown origin, was actually a human player, did the Nightmare Sovereign feel unsettled. Only then did it recognize Yarji’s legitimate status and start to groom him.

If grooming had started early on, with five or six decades already passed, they should have been ready to attack the Human Main World by now, not waiting until the present.

Yarji’s words pierced through Lin Xiao’s confusion, cementing his decision to check out the Nightmare Main World.

“Perhaps it’s better to wait until my True Body arrives!”

If it was indeed the birthplace of the Nightmare Sovereign, there would surely be contingencies left behind. Yarji himself had said that if he went there, death was certain; clearly, he knew something.

Whether it was a threat to scare him or a real danger, waiting for his True Body to arrive would be more secure.

This projection, although powerful, was powerless against the original Titans and might be crushed with one finger without even being able to send out a signal.

But it was different with his True Body; at the very least, he was a Titan Ancient God. Even if the Nightmare Sovereign in its True Body intervened, it wouldn’t be able to crush him with a single finger.

As long as he wasn’t instantly annihilated, the Human side’s Overlord could save him.

“That’s the plan then!”

Raising his gaze once more to Yarji, he pointed towards the flesh puppets that were regrowing and shouted:

“Twisted Spirits!”

The ability of the mysterious being known as Enigma was unleashed upon this Flesh Puppet, and an indescribable force erupted from within the Flesh Puppet’s body, blasting this nearly Level 90 boss with over 50 million health points into smithereens and instantly killing it on the spot.

Then, from the torn body, eight overwhelmingly powerful Ethereals emerged, led by the Wandering Swordsman Swen, with Void Lightning exploding off of him. The ground was littered with flying debris, carving out a massive trench that rushed towards Yarji in the distance.

It was merely a projection, and divine powers couldn’t be used casually as they could with a True Body. Having just used it once, it was impossible to continuously use the powers of the ancient gods, so they had no choice but to use their own strength to deal with Yarji.

Every Ethereal was the same Level as Lin Xiao; the projection was at Level 95, and all eight Ethereals were also at Level 95. Even their lowest template was that of a Lord, with two of them on the Hero Template. Just these eight Ethereals were enough to give Yarji a hard time.

However, without the oppression of their divine powers, Yarji felt capable again. A gigantic meatball split apart to form a mushroom-like mass standing on the surface of the earth, with dozens of huge tentacles stretching out from the edges. The mushroom-like head was surrounded by tentacles dancing in the air, ending with many eyeballs, while at the center, numerous small pink tentacles supported a gigantic eyeball several hundred meters in diameter, which was rolling around.

The Wandering Swordsman Swen, transformed into the Storm Hammer, rolled over. The gigantic eyeball lit up, and a dazzling red beam shot out, hitting the lightning ball and triggering an explosion causing several hundreds of thousands of damage.

With a thunderous boom, Swen was intercepted on the spot. Immediately after, dozens of tentacles at the edge of Yarji’s head shot out colored beams, and Swen was instantly afflicted with numerous Negative BUFFs.

Weakness, slow, fear, reduced attack, reduced defense, slower speed, and so on – all his stats dramatically dropped, and even his maximum health points were significantly reduced.

With the number and potency of these negative states, a Level 70 player could be weakened to a point where they would be no better than a Level 30 player. Bearing in mind that transformed into an Ethereal with a Hero Template, Swen’s spell resistance was as tough as a Dragon’s. No wonder Wu Zhonglin had previously retreated from this place; this creature was truly nauseating.

Luckily, there was a Hero-level Divine Shepherd behind them. One Purification from her cleaned all Negative BUFFs from Swen, and in the process, she applied several strong Positive BUFFs and a Shield. Swen roared as he activated the War God’s Roar Skill, his body shining bright like a little golden figure. He rushed to the front of Yarji and swung his great sword with all his might.

Compared to the several-kilometer-tall Yarji, Swen was just a speck, but Yarji did not dare to underestimate him. The nearby tentacles waved, trying to bind the golden figure, while a few eyeballs weakened his golden aura with green beams. However, they could do nothing to him. Instead, Swen severed a tentacle with one strike and with a furious lash, he was sent flying. The main eye emitted a green beam over several kilometers, melting deep into the ground where Swen was smashed.

Before Yarji could continue, several Mage and Warrior Ethereals charged forward, with a string of ice crystals over ten meters long puncturing towards him.

An eyeball lit up, forming a blood-colored Shield to block the ice spikes and reflecting them back.

Another Mage summoned a massive Thundercloud above Yarji’s head, and a bolt of lightning thick as a barrel smashed down, causing hundreds of thousands in damage, but quickly a tentacle several kilometers long reached out and dispersed the Thundercloud.

Another Fire Mage directly conjured a large-scale fiery Blizzard under Yarji’s feet, but the next second a black aura exploded, immediately extinguishing the flames and lava on the ground.

A Blizzard cascaded down from the sky, and within a second, more than a dozen eyeballs on Yarji’s tentacles shot out different-colored beams, forcibly penetrating the Mage’s protective shield and forcing the Mage to blink away.

The Divine Shepherd summoned a War Angel, but Yarji’s main eye emitted a black beam, corrupting the War Angel.

Swen activated his ultimate ability, Power of God, multiplying all attributes by ten. One sword strike, a kilometer away, cut off several tentacles. The vile blood turned into a pool of mire. The severed tentacles quickly twisted and transformed into several Tentacle Monsters that continued the attack. They were then continuously slashed into pieces by the subsequent wave of attacks from Swen, but they did not die and instead split into even more degenerate creatures.

At that moment, Swen seemed to be possessed by the spirit of a war god. One slash reached over a kilometer, and with ten slashes, he chopped a third of Yarji’s body into dozens of pieces, which turned into more Mutant Monsters continuing the assault.

After ten strikes, the ultimate move ended, and these pus-filled creatures quickly surrounded him, forming a massive web made of meat columns, engulfing Swen. Tentacles continuously tried to bind and entangle Swen, which he severed quickly; the more he cut, the more they grew.

Seeing this, Lin Xiao simply pointed his finger:

“Void Zeroing!”

With a slight tremble in the Void where he pointed, under the influence of a mysterious force, the laws of the Void began to collapse and the space shattered, with Void Energy erupting forth. Yarji screamed as countless cracks appeared on his body, and even the gigantic central eyeball started showing fractures, leaking thick yellow pus.

His body was directly split open, the giant web tore apart, and Swen, completely unharmed, burst from within. The Divine Shepherd quickly purified the viscera and pus from his body.

Enigma’s ability, Void Zeroing, attacks targets directly from the level of the rules and, therefore, essentially ignores physical defense and magic resistance. It can instantly kill any non-elite unit, causing different degrees of instant death to elite creatures depending on the user’s strength.

If the great being Enigma itself were to use it, one move would carve up the entire plane into fine powder, and anything less than the True God would be killed instantly.

Lin Xiao’s current projection could only kill all other living entities in the vicinity, including many surviving Nightmare players, with one move, but it wasn’t enough to kill Yarji. This move was also a persistent skill that could repeatedly slice and dice within the area; the longer one stayed, the higher the damage inflicted.

But Yarji couldn’t run. His present combat stance was fixed to the ground; while incapacitated, he could use his tentacles to penetrate deep into the earth and draw energy from the Earth itself, gaining tremendous vitality and restorative ability, suitable for a prolonged battle.

Normally he could force his way through spatial magic, but Lin Xiao’s Void Zeroing directly shattered the rules of space, and Yarji could do nothing but endure the damage.
