"We’ll have to move forward and fight the spider a few meters away, or else it’ll realize our plan and target Sir Evan again.", Leon suggested as they saw the spider getting up.

The other three nodded while Selena warned in caution.

"Be careful of the spider’s screech. It’ll numb you for a few seconds so jump away when it’s about to do it."

Remembering the dreadful moment when the spider had almost killed the two of them, they frowned seriously.

’I’ll have to create it now. A skill that can hold back a Rank 3 monster.’, Felix thought.

He knew creating a skill that could immediately kill a Rank 3 monster would cost a lot more than what he had, so the only choice was to create a skill that could harm or hold back the monster.

"Now! We have to attack before it comes to us!", Leon urged.

The four of them left behind Evan and started running towards the spider as they separated in two different directions, two on both the left and right sides.

Felix went with Keith and Selena with Leon. They rushed towards the spider as it screeched at them angrily.

"KRIEKHHH!!"

Before they began the fight, Felix narrowed down his options for the skill he wanted to create.

’It should be related to the earth attribute for obvious reasons.....and it should be strong enough to affect a Rank 3.’

His mind imagined a suitable skill while they had arrived beside the spider to engage it in combat.

"Dominic Chains!"

"Razor Strike!"

Selena and Leon attacked the spider from the right side, gaining its attention while Felix and Keith moved behind it.

"Shield me for a few seconds, I have an idea!"

Felix said to Keith as the man nodded seriously, not wasting time on any doubts.

The Rank 3 spider easily threw off the attacks directed at it and violently started stabbing its legs around.

Selena and Leon quickly dodged the hits but they couldn’t stop themselves from getting a few cuts here and there.

Keith had perfectly blocked the attacks with his shield even though the force was almost pushing him off his feet, all the while protecting Felix behind him who had made his decision.

’System! Create a skill like this!’, he eyed the ground below the spider.

[Affirmative.]

[Processing the skill’s power scale....grading the skill....estimating the possible points required.....skill successfully moduled.]

Felix took a quick look at the system notification as the fight was getting more helpless.

Description:

Causes the ground to suddenly cave in beneath an enemy, creating a seven-meter wide and ten-meter-deep pit that traps them inside.

Felix raised an eyebrow at the skill’s high price, it was way more than any other earth-related skill he had created.

But with the tension ramping up around him, he knew he had to act fast.

Taking a deep breath, he decided to go for it, ready to dive into whatever mess was coming next.

’Yeah, create it! Making a 10-meter hole out of nowhere seems harder than a few spikes anyway...’

[Ding!]

As soon as he got that notification, Felix peeked at Sir Evan and shouted at his three teammates who were still engaged in combat.

"Listen to me, I have a plan!"

The three of them perked their ears at him in confusion, but they couldn’t reply due to the spider’s attacks so he continued

"I have a spell to create a hole to trap the spider. So we’ll have to stun or pause it for a few seconds before I cast it."

Everyone had their eyes lit up at the mention of such a spell as Selena urged in exhaustion.

"You should’ve said it before! Anyway me and Leon will try to stop it using my chains. You cast that spell with Keith’s protection."

"Alright!"

Felix nodded and acted like he was doing something while Selena conjured her chains between the battle and tangled it around the spider.

Leon went to help her as he grabbed a few ends of the chains and jumped around the spider who was busy thrashing at the poor Shieldbearer.

When the spider finally noticed the metallic chains interfering with its movements, it tried to jerk it away, but Selena and Leon used everything in their power to hold it there.

Standing behind Keith, Felix shouted at all of them as he used his new skill Sinkhole.

"NOW! GET AWAY!!"

The four of them abruptly stopped their actions and jumped away the moment they heard him shout.

Suddenly, a large hole appeared on the ground where the spider was standing, making it lose its footing.

"KRIEKHHH?!!"

As confused as the spider was, it couldn’t do anything as its body fell prey to gravity pulling it downwards into the hole.

The spider tried stabbing into the walls of the sinkhole to stop its fall, but Felix had already thought of a solution for that.

"Quicksand!", he activated another skill as soon he saw the monster fall down.

The spider’s legs which were holding onto the walls of the sinkhole started slipping down to its surprise, and the more it struggled, the deeper it fell back into the hole.

"KRRKIIEEKKHHHH!!!!"

A terrifying screech echoed out of the hole into the tunnel, stunning the four for a few seconds before they jerked the numbness away.

"Is it....Is it trapped now?", Leon asked in disbelief as he looked at Felix.

Under the astonished gazes of his three teammates, Felix took a deep breath as he walked toward the sinkhole to take a look.

The others followed the same and carefully peeked their heads to see the spider that had fallen to the bottom of the sinkhole.

"Oh shit!"

Felix cursed out loud when he saw the Rank 3 Deadly Spider doing a spiral run around the walls of the sinkhole to gradually make its way upwards despite the slippery walls.

"No! It’s coming back up!", Leon exclaimed.

The four of them quickly stepped away from the sinkhole as they felt the spider’s angry glare at them from below.

"We can’t let the spider come up. Our only choice is to attack it now.", Selena looked at Felix as they nodded.

The two of them walked back to the sinkhole and sent down their attacks.

"Metallic Rain!"

"Dust Blast!"

The alert spider sensed the attacks and let out a sharp wrathful screech that sent the metals and stones flying back to the surface towards the two of them.

As Felix wasn’t a mage who needed to focus on his spells and was just using his skills, he could easily dodge the incoming danger, but the same wasn’t the case with Selena.

’Oh fuck!’

Sprinting sideways with an Agility Burst, Felix embraced Selena’s body and kicked off against the ground to move away from the hole.

"Boom!"

A cluster of debris and metals rapidly shot out from the hole into the ceiling of the tunnel, creating a lot of dust and sand that enveloped the entirety of the tunnel.

"Cough! Cough!"

Felix found it difficult to breathe in the dusty surroundings as he tried to look around in confusion, unaware of the soft body beneath him.

But then, a fist punched into his stomach from below him as he spun into the air and rolled a meter away.

"W-What?"

He glanced above and saw Selena getting up to her feet with a dark look on her face.

"You as*hole!"

Scratching his head, Felix pushed himself off the ground and at the same time heard a warning shout.

"Felix! Behind you!"

Turning his head in a hurry, Felix witnessed the same two legs of the Rank 3 Deadly Spider he had been seeing a lot, arriving before his face.

’Oh damn....not again....’

And then right on time, he felt a blazing heat approaching behind him with intense light, before he saw the spider pausing in horror as it regretted coming out of the sinkhole.

"Radiant Lance!!"

With an extreme speed, a glowing lance sped through the tunnel arriving inches away from Felix and crashed into the Rank 3 Deadly Spider’s body.

"KRIIIIIEEEEHKKKHHHH!!!!!!" n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

A dreadful screech echoed in the tunnel as the spider had gotten a part of its body blown off and fell back into the sinkhole.

Felix woke up from the shock and turned around to look at Sir Evan who was catching his breath while moving towards them.

"Did that...huff....get it?", he asked after he had used up almost all of his energy reserves.

To check whether the spider was still alive, Felix moved back to the sinkhole and took another peek cautiously.

There he saw the Rank 3 Deadly Spider laying on the deep ground with its body twitching irregularly.

"It’s almost dead...."

Taking a glance behind him, Felix raised the corner of his lips before doing something dangerous.

"...and I’m going to kill it."

He jumped off the ground under the stupefied stares of his teammates, activating his skills to finally end the troublesome spider.

"Earth Spikes!"

"Ratio Technique!"

He raised his sword into the air and focused on the skill he wanted to end this fight with.

"Black Horizon Sword Arts: First Technique!"

Arriving above the injured spider that had just gotten spiked from underneath it, Felix brought down his sword with gusto at the red line on its neck.

"Singular Slash!!"

A clear cut passed through the spider’s neck, detaching it from the body as it rolled towards the spot Felix had landed.

A sweet smile emerged on Felix’s face as he turned behind and looked at the spider’s corpse.

"I really like killing those stronger than me..."

Just when his smile was about to turn a bit twisted, he heard an angry shout from above.

"Felix you stupid idiot! Are you planning to die?!", Selena called out to him from above.

Felix waved his hand at her with a huge smile as he was in a good mood.

"No way! There’s a lot of monsters I’ve yet to kill!"

Selena twitched her lips as she shook her head and cast a spell.

"Crazy bastard...."

She sent down a few metallic chains which Felix held onto to come up, though he could have just swum his way above through the earth.

When Felix came back up, Evan patted on his shoulder and praised him from his heart.

"You did good, Felix. Who knew you had such a move up your sleeve....", he pointed at the sinkhole in amazement.

"Yeah, Felix. If it wasn’t for you, we couldn’t have held back the spider.", Leon nodded with a smile as he was impressed by this Rank 1 junior.

Even Keith was showing a face of respect, while only Selena was peeking at Felix with a bit of suspicion.

’If he could do that, why didn’t he use it earlier? Also, can a Rank 1 have the mana reserves to cast such a strong spell?....’

There were a lot of questions in her mind, but the fight was very tiring so she kept her thoughts for later.

"Oh yeah, I was contacted when I was working on the lance...."

Sir Evan remembered something as he took out a crystal orb and moved his hand over it.

"Hmmm...", he nodded and then kept away the orb before smiling at them.

"It seems that the team handled by Executive Victor from the Twilight Chaos guild found a place for us to make a base. So, let’s start moving back now."

The others nodded at the good news as Felix raised an eyebrow.

’Sir Victor? Isn’t he the man I asked about from Roven?’

While he was busy in his thoughts, they started moving back to the rest of their team, and a few minutes later they grouped back with them.

"Felix!"

Roven came running to check on his teammate and sighed in relief when he saw that he was all alright.

"Gosh, I was worried about you...."

Felix patted him on the shoulder and grinned.

"No need to worry man, nothing can harm me."

Selena harrumphed at him from behind as she looked at him with a mocking smile.

"Really? Then who was it that almost got stabbed by the same pair of spider legs?"

Roven was shocked at her words as he asked back quickly.

"Is that true? Did you almost die Felix?", he didn’t know what to do as the leader of their team anymore.

Felix just waved his hands and eyed Selena with a smirk.

"It was nothing, Roven. I’m sure Selena here is just getting a little jealous."

The purple-haired girl gritted her teeth in anger as she suddenly remembered all the kills that he had stolen from her.

"You filthy thief! How could you-"

Sir Evan quickly interrupted their talk as he ordered with a serious face.

"Stop bickering. We have to return, everyone’s waiting for us."

After handling the situation, he walked ahead and gestured with his hand.

"Alright then, let’s get going. Our scouting mission ends here now."
