Vol. 11 - Chapter 556 - Class-12’s terrific strategy… or not?
Akemi-san and her minions appeared astounded at my clear cut rejection.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
After taking a good moment to go through the situation, finally Akemi-san thawed the stiffness and followed up.
"—H-Hold on, you can't be saying that seriously, do you?! We're talking about the top 4! It's easie-peasie as long as the four of us band together!"
"Well, you see, Class-1 can easily be in the top 4 just by playing defensively."
"You don’t think you can tackle an alliance of four classes by yourself, do you?!"
"It would be a great way to spice up! You're always welcome to try it. In the end, it would be our win!"
"............"
Once again, the gears of Akemi-san froze up as I flashed my excited smile. But this time, she didn't remain stuck for long as a mere moment later, she spun on her heels and began to discuss with her minions.
"«Hey, hey, we're not getting through at all!! Shouldn't he had been, like, showing a apprehensive brooding look after hearing my threat?!»"
"«Eeek? I, I wasn’t expecting to be stuck in this situation... what about you, Wardol?»"
"«I didn't think anyone would grandly welcome a riad...»"
"«Aaah, just give me a know-how manual for Brave, anyone? Why in the world did he give that beaming smile at the threat?! Is something wrong in his head!?»"
Their whisper continued, albeit I had been bound by time, and so I resumed my walk while addressing them.
"Alright guys, see ya in the match. Hope it will be fun~."
"Argh! Hold on, can you please—eeep! I will remember iiiiit!"
"A-Akemi-san?!"
"H-Hey, where are you going?!"
I had just turned to her when Akemi-san suddenly scurried away, leaving behind a cartoonish sharp retort.
Kajmal and Wardol become flustered at the situation and hurriedly followed after her.
In the end, it was me alone.
I must say, they're an interesting bunch. I mean, where else would you find another character who would use the good ol' phrase like 'I will remember it' in this time and age.
Just as I was feeling invigorated after the encounter, I noticed an approaching shadow.
"Good morning, Zephyr-sama."
Celestine greeted me at a perfect time.
"Morning, Celestine!"
"You appeared in a good mood. Did something happen?"
"Hehe, you can tell? Well, I happened to meet some interesting bunch."
We dragged our feet toward the arena while chit-chatting among ourselves. I proceeded to explain my encounter with Akemi-san and the gang.
"—And this is the story."
"A raid from nearly half the participant classes huh. The result would be tremendous if they managed to pull that."
"I know, right? We would have to use our full force this time if we wish to engage against them. Just the challenge right up my alley!"
I mean, our matches up to now were certainly not a straight cakewalk but, our class had as many as five advanced job members. I was certainly hoping for something more challenging. A fierce clash, now that would be great! Though that's just my wishful thinking.
Whoops, anyway, I recall I had something to discuss with him.
"Speaking of, Celestine. Putting them aside for now, I would like to explain a feature about «Dragon's Miniature Garden». It's actually—"
Much like earlier matches, Celestine was to lead Machos with him and engage in the usual hit-and-run tactic. But to achieve that, we ought to outmaneuver «Dragon's Miniature Garden» first. I was planning to explain it later, but since he was here, I might as well discuss.
Amidst our discussion, we soon arrived at the arena. Majority of our class members had already gathered in the waiting room for Class-1.
I passed my greeting while taking my entry.
"Sunshine, everyone!"
"Good morning, Zephyr! Though you're quite late today?"
Lana promptly returned the greeting, then cocked her head in wonder, giving me the 'I would have expected you to come earlier than anyone' gaze.
But before answering her curiosity, I replied back to the successive greeting of other members.
"So, I just happened to encounter some interesting bunch. I think, let everyone gather first before speaking about them."
"Alright?"
It was 10 after that everyone had finally gathered, the last one being Machos in their typical barbarian-esque fur equipment, their body glistening as if steam would come out of their body anytime soon.
A few members ended up plopping down their faces.
"Hiya, sorry for the wait. But we have energized our muscles for the perfect finale-ready moment!"
Alan, the guildmaster of Machos, remarked.
Heh, so the finale-ready moment for him was warming up? But... there was still 1 hour before the starting of the much, wouldn't all the energy and adrenaline settled down by then?
......Oh well, whatever.
I didn't linger on them longer and turned to describe the situation.
"Since everyone is finally here, it's time to explain the situation!"
I exchanged a glance with our Class-1 homeroom teacher Phyllis-sensei—she had been watching everything from a corner of the waiting room—and moved to the front at her urging.
It seemed our class teacher preferred granting autonomy to students huh. Well, well, can't disappoint here, then!"
I started with the acquired intel on other classes from my earlier encounter.
"—And this is pretty much it. Class-12 will be collaborating with at least two other classes. Of course, you can't write off their further collaboration with more classes. The least you can expect is a troop of four combined classes. We would require all our forces ready to face them off."
A murmur broke out among members.
Most of their concern appeared to be about the handling of defense. The apprehension was understandable, since that would be nearly half of the classes. And this time, the offense squad would have to be called in as well.
After breaking the news, I then proceed to explain our plan in such a situation.
"Those who hold the information are the king in this situation. So, Karua—"
Everyone's gaze promptly gathered on Karua as I addressed her.
"Speed is the key to make a breakthrough in this situation. I need you to keep an eye on the enemy's base, note down which class is joining hands with another class, or who have been having class. Every single detail. But foremost, contact all squads once you catch the sign of classes coming together to raid our base. Leave the periodic report for now, just focus on the bigger picture and their action today."
".......Hmm."
Karua gave her usual nod.
...Was it my imagination, or did she take a pause in replying? I hope it's nothing concerning.
"Are you alright? Can you do it?"
"My black cats are awesome."
"I see. Just in case, if you think it's too much, return back to base."
"Hn. Okay."
The match would be heavily influenced by the information. While there was the army of four classes on one side, we also had to consider Rina on other hand. I fear it would turn into information warfare. Anyone failing to catch up in situation would straight fall into the gameboard of Rina. If that happen, our class might fall into jeopardy.
So everything about information would fall into Karua's shoulder; there was no parallel to her in the class after all. Moreover, I believe in her.
Well, the only concerning part was Karua's personality in itself getting in the way, but I was sure the job correction would straighten out that part... I mean, it should be.
"—This is pretty much what I have to say."
"Haa, what an audacious bunch."
Saturn mumbled something.
It wasn't just him. The rest of the Quartet crossed their arms, held their heads like some sort of 'big-wig' and made their following remark.
"Let the match be a lesson to them, that we're not something they can trifle with by just having numbers on their side."
"Today shall be the day my axe quenches its thirst with the enemy's blood!"
"I'm calling this a travesty. Have they really disregarded the presence of this venerable? Indeed, it's nigh the time to correct the taint."
Or so-so their rambling went on.
If you ask me, quartet were the type to be flattened by the human crowd before anyone else. I couldn't grant them any autonomy for today.
"Alright, it's about time for field selection, so time to move on. —Phyllis-sensei, we're all ready."
"Very well, then follow me, everyone."
I turned to Phyllis-sensei once I was finished with my briefing, and then moved out from the waiting room.
There was 30 minutes left before the beginning of the finale.
We would be now checking out the selected field, and selecting our base.
T/N - Heya, everyone. Hope your end of year is going great. So, well, It's been quite a while since my schedule went haywire, messing up my chapter update frequency for good couple of months now.
