Chapter 686: Growing Hunger
Chapter 686: Growing Hunger
Hiro lay on his bed, his eyes opened wide. The room was dimly lit by the fluorescent lamp. Piercing the eerie silence lingering in the room, the wall clock ticked rhythmically.
Hiro had been trying to fall asleep. But for some reason, he was finding the sleep rather elusive.
He rolled over to his left and closed his eyes, forcing himself to sleep. Yet he couldn't fall asleep and woke up.
"What's happening?" He whispered.
He again tossed to the right as he tried to fall asleep. He had lost count of how many times he had tried to fall asleep today.
He could tell that he had been trying to sleep since 9:30. He could also tell it had been a lot since he was trying to fall asleep.
Unable to fall asleep, Hiro tossed the blanket aside and stood up.
"Why can't I sleep?" He mumbled, restless somewhat.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, he glanced outside the window with a seemingly dejected look on his face. He had never had trouble sleeping except for the time he had been traumatized by the injury.
Today, he had a great day. Debuting, scoring, and winning, he had done it all.
He had fulfilled one of his biggest dreams of playing in Europe.
So, it was an auspicious day. Yet for some reason, he was having trouble falling asleep. It didn't make any sense.
Restless, he glanced at the clock. The hour hand was fixed on 10 while the minute hand was fixed on 5, the second hand moving steadily, and the mechanism inside generated a familiar ticking sound.
"It's almost close to 10:30," Hiro mumbled.
It meant that he had been trying to fall asleep for nearly an hour.
"Is it because of the excitement?" Hiro felt his heartbeat, his heart pounding steadily.
He didn't feel anything out of the ordinary, even his heart was beating normally. Sure, he had been excited earlier. But now, the excitement had quietened down.
Yet for some reason, he couldn't help but recall the earlier moment, "I really scored a brace on my debut." He glanced at his feet. The moment felt unreal. "Against the mighty Los Blanco, I scored a brace."
Thinking about it, he felt his blood rustling and heart pumping.
Then he stood and walked to the kitchen. He returned holding a glass of water, steam oozing out of it. Holding the glass, he walked to the window.
He slid the window open and walked to the balcony.
The cold breeze rustled past him and his skin tingled with cold. Compared to the atmosphere inside the room, it was rather cold outside.
Feeling the cold, Hiro felt further refreshed. It was rejuvenating and soothing.
Towering structures stood before him like a skeletal sentinel, their silhouette twisted. The city lights flickered and the distant structure came to light.
The night sky stretched endlessly and stars flickered in the sky. The moon, a luminous crescent hung high in the sky, bathing the surface in silvery hallow. A few wisps of cloud floated aimlessly like the brushstrokes of a master painter adding a finishing touch to a masterpiece.
"It's light around the horizon but dark around the center," Hiro mumbled, leaning against the railing. Staring at the scenery before him, he sipped on his hot water.
The warmth of the hot water filled him and warmed him up from the inside.
"It was a crazy day," Hiro mumbled while sightseeing and sipping the hot water.
An eerie silence lingered and it was relatively calm outside. If he were in the city, it wouldn't have been like this. However, he resided quite far from the city square.
There weren't any skyscrapers around him and most of the houses were built in European style. The air was crisp and cold.
Even though it was late in the night, the street beneath him was illuminated by the streetlights. The street, however, was empty and silent.
Looking at the empty street, he couldn't help but develop an urge to go on a running. However, it was a little late to that. So, he dismissed the thought immediately.
Hiro spent quite some time outside to free his mind. He thought perhaps he had been thinking too much about the day's event and because of it, he had trouble sleeping.
So, he remained outside, basking in the tranquil moment.
The gentle light of the moonlight fell upon him, caressing him. The gentle breeze helped him freshen up and the eerie silence provided him solace.
After a moment of tranquility, he stepped inside.
Thud!
He slid the window close and locked the window. Then he placed the glass on the table. At that moment, his gaze fell upon the MOTM award he had bagged a little earlier.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
The moonlight fell upon the room and lit the room dimly in a silvery glow. Reflecting the moonlight, the trophy shone with an ethereal brilliance.
A soft smile tugged his lip as he stared at the trophy, "Let's fill this entire cabinet with trophies."
For some reason, he couldn't help but commit. He was well aware that the journey ahead wouldn't be simple but still, he couldn't help but desire to win more trophies.
Back home, he had an entire closet full of trophies.
But he knew that it was far from enough. After all, he had set his sights on the greatest individual award. An award so prestigious that almost every player wants to win it once in their career. An award so elusive that no Asian player has won it yet.
Even Son Heung-Min who's regarded as one of the greatest Asian players to ever play in Europe didn't manage to win it.
Even Yamada with his impressive season fell short of winning it.
Perhaps it's his lust for the award that kept him awake. He couldn't rule out this possibility either.
"A World Cup and a Balon d'Or, it would be great to win these two things," Hiro murmured, his eyes glistening with determination.
He had achieved one of his dreams of playing in Europe for one of the biggest clubs in Europe. However, now that he had fulfilled one of his dreams, he couldn't help but want more.
Though he had debuted in Europe, he had yet to debut in Europe's most coveted club tournament- The Champions League.
Now that he thought about the Champions League, he became flustered, "Wait..., doesn't it make three things? A World Cup, A Champions League, and a Balon d'Or."
"Just how many players have managed to win all these three? Ronaldo Nazario, Lionel Messi,
Ronaldinho, are there others too?"
Hiro began to count.
What do you think?
