Evolution begins with an ant colony

Chapter 113 A Quest for Gunshin Flowers And Chains Of Silence

Deep within the heart of a dense forest, John, Chris, and Mina ventured forth on their quest to find the elusive Gunshin flowers. Their surroundings were cloaked in shadows as the thick canopy of trees blocked out most of the sunlight. The forest floor was layered with moss and fallen leaves, and the air was thick with the scent of damp earth and decaying vegetation.

Chris, ever the vocal one, couldn't help but voice his complaints as they trudged deeper into the woods. "This is boring," he grumbled, his voice dripping with frustration. "We should have taken that goblin quest. At least that would've been exciting."

John, leading the way with a determined stride, shot a sidelong glance at Chris. "Then why didn't you go for it yourself?" he retorted. "I certainly wouldn't have followed you into that mess."

Chris crossed his arms, sulking as he walked. "I'm just saying, this herb quest is a snoozefest."

Their search continued, each step feeling heavier than the last as the minutes stretched into what felt like hours. The monotony of their task was beginning to take its toll on Chris, and he couldn't contain his annoyance any longer. He approached Mina, who was walking alongside John, and leaned in closer to her.

"Hey, Mina," he began, his tone laced with impatience, "can't you whip up a spell or something to find these stupid flowers? We've been wandering forever."

Mina turned to face Chris, her expression apologetic. "I wish it were that easy," she said, her voice soft but filled with regret. "Search magic doesn't work like that. I have to have seen the flower before to use magic to find it. All we know is its description."

Chris wasn't one to give up easily. "Can't you just use your imagination or something?" he pressed. "Close your eyes, picture the flower in your head, and poof, magic it up."

Mina sighed, shaking her head. "It doesn't work like that," she repeated. "I wish it did, but magic doesn't respond to imagination alone. I need a reference, something to anchor the spell to."

Chris grumbled in frustration, kicking at a wayward stone on the forest path. "This is ridiculous," he muttered.

Despite their complaints and the growing sense of monotony, the trio pressed on deeper into the forest. The description of the Gunshin flowers echoed in their minds.

Amidst the dense foliage of the forest, John and Mina meticulously searched through the bushes, focused on locating the elusive Gunshin flowers.

Meanwhile, Chris lay sprawled on the forest floor, his complaints an ever-present soundtrack to their search. "I swear," he groaned, "I'm going to die of boredom at this rate. This quest is a nightmare."

John, who had been meticulously inspecting a cluster of bushes, emerged triumphant with a Gunshin flower in hand. He held it up for Mina and Chris to see. "I found them. Let's go."

Chris, his earlier complaints momentarily forgotten, jumped up with newfound enthusiasm. "Finally, this nightmare will end," he declared, relief washing over his features. "I was starting to think we would spend the rest of our lives looking for that stupid flower."

John, ever the voice of reason, clarified their next steps. "Now all that's left is for us to transport it."

Chris's elation waned as a sense of dread crept back in. "You mean the worst is not over?"

John shot him a stern look. "Quit whining. How the hell are you going to save the world if you can get tired of just looking for a flower?"

Mina, still nursing her disappointment over Evan's recent behavior, decided to join in. "Yeah, Chris, he's right. You're acting like a baby."

Chris couldn't help but defend himself, his tone a mix of frustration and resignation. "I only decided to come to this world for fame and power, not gathering herbs. If I knew this is what becoming a hero would put me through, I might as well have followed Akun home."

John decided that enough was enough. "Alright, enough complaining. Let's start heading to the village to deliver this." With the precious Gunshin flowers in hand, their quest was one step closer to completion.

Meanwhile at the edge of the foreboding Godforsaken Forest, Utopia, her white and gold armor gleaming even amidst the dim light filtering through the dense canopy, sat atop her horse. She emanated an aura of unwavering determination as she addressed the enigmatic figure before her.

"State your name," Utopia demanded, her tone firm and resolute. "You dare go against the church's teachings by stepping into the Godforsaken Forest."

Akun, his silver hair cascading like a waterfall, and his piercing purple eyes betraying a hint of curiosity, contemplated her words. Did she truly perceive him as a human due to his humanoid appearance?

Akun broke the silence, his voice resonating with an otherworldly air. "You should correct yourself," he said, his words deliberate. "I am a creature of this forest, not an intruder like your companions."

Utopia and her fellow Holy Knights had ventured into a world far beyond their own, where the laws of nature bent and twisted.

Utopia's curiosity and concern deepened as she probed further, "What do you mean, you are a creature of this forest?"

Akun's response was nothing short of chilling. With a commanding tone that reverberated through the dense woods, he declared, "Obviously, it means I'm a monster."

A flicker of irritation colored Utopia's voice as she retorted, "Pretending to be a monster to avoid the church's punishment, how dare you try to make a fool of the church! I shall bring forth divine punishment upon you."

But before Utopia could unleash the wrath of her divine retribution, Akun's voice hushed her into silence. With an air of inevitability, he uttered those ominous words, "Your time is up."

Suddenly, Akun's aspect power ignited around him, bathing the surroundings in an eerie purple glow. The horses beneath the Holy Knights panicked, their eyes wild with fear, as if sensing the impending storm. Their riders, the knights, clung to the reins, speaking soothing words to calm their steeds, as they braced themselves for whatever awaited them in the Godforsaken Forest.

Shielding her eyes from the blinding light emanating from Akun, Utopia's thoughts raced. "Is he the Demon King?" she wondered. "But I thought the Demon King is supposed to be in the Demon Continent."

But regardless of his true identity, one thing was clear to Utopia. "It doesn't matter what he is," she mused inwardly, her resolve firm, "what matters is that I now have the responsibility of putting him down."

Disembarking from her horse with purpose, she commanded the other Holy Knights to do the same. The horses, sensing the foreboding presence of Akun's power, bolted away in fear, leaving the Holy Knights to face their enigmatic adversary alone.

Akun's commanding tone cut through the tense silence, his words laden with a hint of disdain. "You all seem to be serving that goddess. You are from the Holy Church, aren't you?"n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

Utopia, gripping her sword tightly, responded defiantly, "And what if we are? You shall be dying very soon. It's not like that knowledge will help you." Her voice carried the weight of her devotion to the church and her determination to carry out her duty.

As Akun's overwhelming aura suddenly subsided, a collective gasp of surprise rippled through the ranks of the Holy Knights, catching Utopia and her comrades off guard. Utopia, with her blade still at the ready, couldn't help but ask cautiously, "Are you surrendering?"

Akun's response was far from surrender. "Not even close," he retorted, his tone laced with an unsettling seriousness. "You are lucky you are serving that goddess. I was actually looking foward to a battle today, but I can't kill all of you now, it would only alert your goddess of my existence. If not, I would have ended all of your lives here and now."

His words sent shivers down Utopia's spine, and her anger flared. Without hesitation, she lunged forward, her blade enveloped in a radiant holy aura, determined to strike down the supposed sinner. But as she swung her sword towards Akun, her body suddenly betrayed her. She felt an inexplicable force pinning her down, and she dropped to her knees, gasping for breath.

Utopia's voice trembled with both anger and confusion as she demanded, "What sort of spell is this? Release me, you heathen!" Her fellow Holy Knights shared in her plight, all of them on their knees, struggling to breathe, unable to move, victims of Akun's formidable aspect power.

Akun's measured steps carried him closer to Utopia as he explained his intentions. "I don't have time for this, so I will quickly get this done with, since there are other important matters that are in need of my attention," he began, crouching down and tilting Utopia's gaze to meet his.

Despite her predicament, Utopia refused to be entirely submissive. She removed her chin from his grasp, her determination unwavering. "So what will you do?" she questioned. "You can't keep us here forever. If you do, the head priest will become suspicious, and then he will send out the Holy Inquisitors, and then you will..."

Before she could finish her warning, Akun interjected. "I will be sending you all back with your lives intact," he declared, his tone cold and unyielding. "But I will be keeping your mouths shut."

Utopia wasn't one to be easily threatened. She responded with steely resolve, "If you think we shall listen to your threats, then you are sorely mistaken. We would rather die than listen to the likes of you."

Without hesitation, Akun took action. He pointed his palm towards Utopia and uttered the command, "Activate Taming." In response, multiple purple chains emerged and coiled around the necks of all the Holy Knights. Unlike his previous use of this power on other creatures, the chains now seemed intent on choking them, causing the knights to gasp for air.

With a chilling finality, Akun concluded, "The fact that you all saw me will become our little secret."
