Chapter 44
C44 – I Rejected It!
The principal and Lampo Wan struck with such sudden ferocity that Liu Shibin was caught completely off guard.
By the time he was ready to fight back, the battle had already concluded.
He wasn’t the only one taken by surprise; the surrounding teachers were equally unprepared.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
In less than two seconds, a level ten Animal Whisperer from Bayshore University had vanished.
This was a level of combat far beyond Zhou Mu’s capabilities; he couldn’t even handle the slightest ripple of its aftermath.
So, he made the swift decision to distance himself, to avoid becoming an unintended casualty.
And the man in black? Merely a nonentity, hardly worth a second thought.
“Hmm?”
Zhou Mu halted abruptly after rounding a few corners near the dormitory.
A woman was approaching, about ten meters ahead.
Her features were exquisite, her skin, flawless.
Loose pants concealed her long legs, and a trench coat draped over her slender waist.
With each step, she moved with a captivating grace.
Without witnessing it himself, Zhou Mu would never have believed that a woman so modestly dressed could possess such a stunning figure.
“A woman like that,” he mused, “would leave you with kidney failure within three days of marriage.”
“Boss, keep your cool,” Jinzi whispered in his ear. “I worry your body won’t hold up.”
“Kids are the ones who can’t handle it. Us adults come prepared with kidney tonics.”
Zhou Mu’s eyes were locked onto Zhao Qianqian, the enormity of the situation rendering him momentarily powerless to look away.
Pah! It was a hatred so deep, so irreconcilable!
How could he let go of the fury of being overpowered and beaten, unless he returned the favor in kind?
“I never expected someone so young to be so merciless. You’ve wiped out over ten thousand freshmen,” Zhao Qianqian observed, her gaze sweeping over Zhou Mu, her eyes shimmering like waves at sea.
With her striking figure and looks, she was nothing short of a rare beauty.
Yet, Zhou Mu’s thoughts were consumed with increasing his strength, his only desire for Zhao Qianqian being retribution.
Engaging in other pursuits wasn’t out of the question, but first, a confrontation was in order.
“If no one crosses me, I won’t cross them. But since they’ve had the audacity to gang up on me, they’ll have to face the consequences.”
Zhou Mu snorted dismissively. That woman was a complete madwoman; he had no desire to interact with Zhao Qianqian more than necessary.
…
Before he knew it, three days had flown by. The turmoil at Bayshore School had been settled, and the rewards were handed out.
True to the agreement, Zhou Mu claimed the soul crystals for first place and the wrinkled papaya for second, leaving the credits for them to sort out.
He kept the third-place reward for himself.
But there was an unexpected twist—the reward, initially a leader-quality iron-armored rhinoceros cub, had turned into a dog.
“What’s this supposed to be?”
Zhou Mu couldn’t help but feel exasperated as he peered at the whimpering cub inside the box.
It was a Blazing Wind cub, leader-quality.
Since it hadn’t been time for its birth, the Blazing Wind was slain by Jinzi, leaving the premature cub malnourished and its quality downgraded from lord to leader.
For Zhou Mu, the quality wasn’t a big deal—in fact, a leader was much more manageable than a lord.
Contracting with a lord spirit animal required a whopping 600 points of Physique to withstand the bloodline assimilation, while a leader needed only 100 points.
However, looking at the puppy in the box, Zhou Mu felt a strong aversion.
On one hand, the Blazing Wind’s intelligence was pitifully low. On the other, the creature was somewhat “off.”
After inspecting its attributes, Zhou Mu’s reluctance only grew.
Name: Cryo
Quality: Leader
Level: First Rank One Star
Attribute: Wind
Upgrade Requirement: Flesh or energy-rich substances from a first rank or one star fiend beast.
Quality Skills:
Wind Wings: An elite skill that significantly boosts movement speed in windy areas.
Child of the Wind: A leader skill that harnesses the power of wind, continuously generating tornadoes around the user, reducing incoming damage and keeping enemies at bay.
First Rank Skill:
Awooo: Just… Awooo.
“Great, Cryo, you’re looking ridiculous. Did the Blazing Wind mate with a husky or something? And what’s with this skill—Awooo? Seriously, Awooo my foot!”
Zhou Mu felt utterly exasperated; due to a premature birth, he had only inherited the wind attribute of the Flaming Wind. Aside from its speed, it was practically worthless.
”Wait a second! Fast?”
He smacked his forehead. Didn’t he need a spirit animal that could whisk him away in a flash?
At the same level, Gator was unbeatable, and Goldie’s combat prowess was off the charts. What they lacked, however, was mobility.
Gator wasn’t as quick on its feet as Zhou Mu, and Goldie, being small and unable to fly, had explosive power but dismal stamina.
That’s when it hit him—the dopey dog was his perfect counterpart!
Despite this revelation, Zhou Mu was reluctant.
Soul Contracts were incredibly valuable, with additional slots granted at level one, three, six, and ten.
This meant that even a level ten Animal Whisperer at the pinnacle of this world could only bond with a maximum of four spirit animals.
Gator was of the dragon species, Goldie of the phoenix species, and Cryo… well, Cryo was just a bad breed.
“No way, I can’t bond with this fool. One Goldie is already a handful; throw in a husky and I’ll lose my mind.”
Rubbing his temples, Zhou Mu pondered his options for a third spirit animal.
The principal had promised a Moon Beast at level six.
He’d assess the Moon Beast’s attributes first; if it lived up to Zheng Hao’s description, he’d make the bond. If not, he’d look elsewhere.
As for Cryo…
“Ugh, that name’s a mouthful. From now on, you’re Rice Bucket.”
He muttered under his breath, christening the pup.
“Yip! Yip! Yip!”
Rice Bucket couldn’t grasp Zhou Mu’s words, but it continued to yip incessantly.
Its sunken belly suggested hunger.
Zhou Mu logged onto the Animal Whisperer Union’s website, typed in “Dog” and “Blazing Wind Ape,” and purchased the top ten bestsellers.
When you’re wealthy, you call the shots!
Unsure what it should eat?
He’d sample them all!
Zhou Mu resolved to raise Rice Bucket as a pet and mount for the time being.
Without a contract, it couldn’t enter the realm of the Soul Contract. Should it sustain a fatal injury, there’d be no stabilizing its condition, much less a gradual recovery.
Moreover, for an Animal Whisperer, not having a contract is incredibly risky; a single misstep could lead to a backlash from the beast.
After about a thirty-minute wait, the items I ordered arrived.
In this world, the powerful are masters of Space Mode, and since Zhou Mu is a valued customer, they simply opened a space channel to deliver the goods directly.
I let Rice Ball sample all the food, and Zhou Mu noticed the little one had a particular fondness for milk.
Especially the milk from a high-level spirit animal—it guzzled it down as if in a race for every drop.
Even when it drank so hastily that it snorted milk up its nose, Rice Ball didn’t pause for a moment.
Watching its messy antics, Zhou Mu couldn’t help but sigh in resignation.
The more he watched, the dumber it seemed, and the more irredeemable.
Considering the Blazing Wind Ape’s intelligence was already pitiful, paired with the husky, it was a combination that was comically hopeless!
