Apocalypse - Evil Shelter System

Chapter 386 Resolved

Alex fought fiercely with the zombies while scanning the surroundings. He noticed a Jeep parked not far away. His eyes lit up:

"These guys have definitely prepared an escape route."

He pondered how to escape alive, wondering if he should detonate a bomb to perish together. Just as Alex hesitated, a sense of danger surged within him. He quickly twisted his body to dodge. He had just moved away from the car door when the window shattered with a crack, a bullet piercing through.Nôv(el)B\\jnn

The bullet shot through the car roof, grazed his ear, and shattered another window before disappearing into the night sky.

"Damn it!"

Furious and humiliated, Alex wanted to confront the attacker but was surrounded by zombies. He could only fend them off while waiting for an opportunity.

"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh—"

At that moment, several more meteors streaked across the sky.

"Boom—"

A bullet struck a building, instantly exploding and lighting up the sky with flames. The fire spread, engulfing an entire area.

"Help! Save us!"

Bell and Alex, in the midst of their battle, couldn't help but shout. A horde of zombies got caught in the flames. Amidst their screams, they staggered away, trying to use the wind to extinguish the fire. However, the blaze was too intense to be put out easily, growing stronger instead. Not only did the entire building catch fire, but the nearby streets were also ablaze, turning night into day.

Bell and Alex retreated towards the park entrance.

"Move, move!"

Alex pulled a mother and her child backward, while directing others to clear the path.

"Whooo—"

Just as they got into the car, another horn blared. Three trucks then crashed towards them like mad bulls.

"Bang—"

Their Humvee was hit and flipped, rolling and breaking through a railing. White smoke billowed from the tail end of the car.

However, the outside was even more crowded as more zombies surged in. Alex kicked away an attacking zombie with one swift move. Without pausing, he turned and stabbed another zombie in the stomach with a quick thrust. He moved with lightning speed, killing his enemies.

"Argh!"

At that moment, Alex heard a roar, followed by a flash of green light. A zombie shot towards him like an arrow. Alex's eyes twitched, and he quickly tilted his head to dodge, while raising his left hand.

"Crack—"

His fingers caught the green flash.

"Hiss—"

Alex gasped as he felt his entire left arm go numb. The zombie had spewed venom at him.

"Roar, roar, roar—"

All the other zombies went berserk and charged at him. Alex snorted coldly, "Courting death!" He gripped his dagger with both hands and spun his body like a whirlwind.

"Splat, splat—"

As the dagger danced, blood spattered. In an instant, dozens of zombies fell into pools of blood.

"Roar!"

Suddenly, a massive figure appeared in Alex's sight. It was much taller than ordinary zombies, standing three or four meters higher, with a burly physique and an iron-blue face. It was a zombie dog, and a mutated one at that.

Seeing it charging at him, Alex's pupils contracted, and his heart pounded fiercely.

"Swish!"

Alex took off running. The zombie dog was extremely fast, catching up in the blink of an eye. It swung its claws, aiming to tear Alex to pieces. But Alex was no ordinary human; his agility was exceptional.

"Boom—"

Alex threw a punch, colliding with the zombie dog, the explosive sound echoing in the air. The zombie dog was pushed back a couple of steps, while Alex used the momentum to sprint forward. He ran while looking for an opportunity.

Finally, he found one and abruptly halted.

"Roar—" The zombie dog roared continuously, staring viciously at Alex. It lunged at him again.

A slight smirk appeared on Alex's lips, revealing a hint of coldness.

"Whoosh!" Alex flicked his dagger.

"Thud!" Bright red blood spurted from the zombie dog's neck. Its crimson eyes widened in unwillingness as it collapsed to the ground. Alex breathed a sigh of relief, wiping the sweat from his forehead. That was close. Under normal circumstances, he wouldn't have been a match for the zombie dog. But he had the ability to respawn infinitely, so he wasn't afraid of death.

Although the zombie dog was powerful, it lacked intelligence and only knew how to attack. So, Alex kept entangling with it, finally delivering a fatal blow when it was distracted.

"Beep... Host has gained 10,000 experience points." The system's voice rang in his mind. A smile curved on Alex's lips; it seemed his trip hadn't been in vain. However, he didn't let his guard down. There were even more formidable opponents waiting for him.

Alex looked up and indeed saw a man in black standing on the rooftop of a distant building. He was dressed in a black suit, wearing black sunglasses, and holding a shiny silver sniper rifle aimed at Alex.

"This guy must be an elite-level zombie, probably as strong as that wolf king," Alex muttered to himself.

"Pant, pant—" The zombie dog lay on the ground as the surrounding zombies swarmed over, baring their fangs and claws.

"Hah!" Alex sneered, "A bunch of low-level zombies dare to block me? You must be tired of living."

"Swish!" His figure became a blur, and the cold light in his hand flashed.

"Ah!" Screams echoed. Zombies fell one after another. In just five minutes, the place was quiet again.

Alex packed up his things, preparing to leave.

Although Alex was injured, he had no trouble walking, so he returned to the base smoothly. As soon as he got back to the base, Alex went to the medical room to change his bandages.

Alex lay on the bed, staring at the white ceiling, lost in deep thought. Everything was finally coming to an end. After fighting for so long, he had almost dealt with all the zombies and mutants. Moreover, humanity was gradually starting to improve, and it seemed that his mission had come to an end.

[Ding, system prompt: All host's tasks are completed, all rewards are retained, system automatically deactivating!]

That familiar voice echoed in his mind once more. Alex smiled slightly; departures were inevitable. He had been with the system for so long that, despite it being a cold machine, he had developed some feelings for it.

[Thank you for your companionship, host. The system tasks are now completed. Farewell!]

As soon as the words fell, the system disappeared. Alex looked at the growing black vortex on the ceiling, feeling surprisingly calm. The departure of the system brought such immense energy that he believed in all the things he had encountered before.

"Heh..."

He chuckled softly, feeling an immense sense of relief, as if he had fulfilled his ultimate destiny. This planet still needed his protection, but he no longer needed the system. He was already strong enough to face any danger head-on. The wheel of history continued to turn, and the things that needed protection still remained.

The man, like a god, still scanned the entire world with his hawk-like eyes.
